Question about Televison & Video
The reason for this problem is most likely to be mechanical obstruction near the tape driving mechanism. Hence when you try to play tape to avoid damaging the components the tv will power off. removing the obstruction(if it is not a worn out part or broken belt) should allow you to operate the VCR again but the dis-assembly won't be easy as the VCR is under the CRT and the chassis may have to be slid out to access it. I would strongly recommend that you let a qualified tv tech to handle it.
