Tip

Horizontal Lines on your print out paper

Horizontal Lines on your print out paper

Possible Cause:

Air in the print head: This is the most common cause of printing problems. When changing the cartridges, or for other reasons, air bubbles can enter the print head. This prevents the necessary pressure build up (through heating or vibration) as a result, no ink is sprayed onto the paper and you can see white lines. This effect is also called banding.

Solution:

To improve your print, most printers feature a print head cleaning cycle. Ink is flushed through the print head to re-establish the ink flow. It may be that you have to carry out this procedure several times to achieve the desired result.

Possible Cause:

Blocked nozzles: If the printer is not used for a long period, particles can build up and block the print head.

Solution:

To remove this blockage, run the cleaning cycle. If you cannot achieve a satisfactory result, use a nozzle cleaning fluid.

Possible Cause:

Defective print head: Print heads are exposed to high stress. The temperature variation in thermal print heads can vary by 100`s of degrees centigrade up to 10000 Hertz (10.000 times per second). Therefore print heads have a certain amount of wear and tear. Depending on the manufacturer and price, print heads have a limited life. Epson uses Piezo print heads, which guarantee a long life. However if they do become defective, compared to other printers, the repair can be costly.

Solution:

With printers that feature integrated print heads that are separate from the ink tank (that is for example, Epson and most Canon machines) all that remains is to change the print head. With HP Lexmark and Dell the print head is part of the cartridge, and is automatically replaced each time you replace the cartridge.

Epson workforce 545 is printing & coping blank

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Hi, When printing photos, my photos have horizontal light coloured lines across them. When I print the nozzle check pattern all colours match the guide with the exception of the light magenta....

Epsons are notorious for this sort of problem, especially in used infrequently as ink residue dries on the print head; try using a cleaning cartridge, or swab around relevant print head with cotton bud and ethanol/isopropyl alcohol. Here are examples of cleaning carts, there are others http://www.internet-ink.co.uk/epson-cleaning-cartridges/ http://www.icompinkcartridges.co.uk/epson-r200-r300-r220-r320-r340-cleaning-kit.html

Horizontal lines appearing on the print out

Sounds like 1 or more ink jets are not printing. Try a head print test & then if errors are there do a head clean. These functions can be found in the maintenance tab.

Change black ink and now prints with white lines through the words on every other line

It is CLOGGED print-heads that cause the ink to _not_ be sprayed onto the paper, resulting in "white" horizontal lines.

Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle", using the Epson software installed when you installed the printer.

Horizontal lines when printing

Remove the cartridge(s) and use an alcohol swab to reach inside and clean the print head surface where the ink comes out.You may have to move the head with the power turned off to get at it or turn the printer on it's side to be able to reach under the head to clean. Q-tips work fine for that and it will likely take quite a few.Clean until there is no more ink on the q-tips. Also clean all rollers and surfaces where ink can collect. A defective head will also do that as it sometimes leaks excessive ink when printing.
