SOURCE: I can not get my mower deck to turn when I pull

Your switch could be bad, or the voltage needed to turn on the PTO may not be up to par, or you may have a safety switch that won't let you start the PTO. I'd start with the safety switches.

SOURCE: PTO Issue

It sounds like you got the cable to tight. The brake cable applys the brake to the pulley to help stop the blades when PTO is disengaged. With it being tight it might be applying the brake and that is the reason your blades are not running at full speed. If you keep using it that way it will wear out your brake and possibly damage a pulley. I suggest you loosen the brake cable or replace it with a new one.

How do I reattach the deck to my riding lawn mower

do you have a pto lever that tightens the belt? if so theres a bracket on top and in the back that holds the cabble but first you must attach the spring to the pulley that's on a arm that releases and tightens the belt, there is a hole on the arm closer to the pulley itself hook that up and pull with a little strength and put the end of the plastic of the cable in that bracket and with a carter key holds it in position and then try your lever then make sure nothing is rubbing or under a strain, hope this give you some idea of what to do

I have a MTD yardman 1999,2000 ride mower that won't start because it says the pto is engaged when it's not actually engaged if you could comment an image of the same 42 inch deck?

Check your PTO switch operation which is at the engagement handle.

As for hooking the cable spring to deck idler pulley and brake assembly it goes in the hole closest to the idler pulley on the G deck which different then the F deck which uses the same idler arm assembly as the part is design to fit both decks.

Also make sure your using an OEM spec as a will fit will not work properly. You also must the spindle pulleys belt retainer covers in place so the belt will stay on.

Can I get a picture of a 46" deck layout for a black mtd yard machine so I can c how the deck engagement cable go

Only seen one or two H decks here.
if it is this cable

then it connects to the RH brake assembly and the PTO engagement plate. There is also a spring that connects at the same point on the engagement plate to the right hand frame.

Clutch cable routing for a craftsman 971289010 lawnmower

The PTO cable will come out the chassis straight down from the engagement lever on the right side of the dash panel. Will be fastened to the frame on the right side in front of the rear wheel with a zip tie. Loop over the brake rod and attach to the deck on a tab at the rear center of the deck. A hair pin will secure it there. The inner cable continues from there under the belt and the spring hooks into the engagement bracket. There may be two hole for the spring to hook into. They are marked 38 or 42.

Sears troubleshooting

It is likely that the pto engagement cable has broke and needs to be replaced. Lower the deck all the way down. With the engine off, kneel on the right side of the mower. look under the mower and find the end of the cable on the deck. It will be near the center rear of the deck and will have a spring on the end of the cable. Once the cable is located reach up and operate the pto lever and watch the cable. The end of the cable should move with the lever, pulling the idler pulley back and tightening the belt. If this movement does not happen replace the cable.

If all the parts are correct then you need to check the belt routing diagram. Sometimes you can find it on the mower deck and in the owners manual. Look carefully at the spring locations on the deck to be sure there correct. George
