Ascaso Dream Leaking Water

The machine is about 2 years old. Recently, while the portafilter is in and the machine attempting to pump water through it, the machine begins to leak a stream of water from above the group head. It seems to be pressure related because it doesn't start right when I turn the switch on for extracting the coffee. It also does not leak after I turn the switch off and use the other switch for steaming milk. I wondering if there is some gasket that needs to be replaced or if the nuts (?) that go around the group head just need to be tightened....perhaps something else?

Just to make sure I have not described the issue incorrectly, I wanted to make sure that you are not referring to any gaskets that are up inside the group head. The water does not leak between the group head and the portafilter, it is leaking from the underside of the top part of the machine that juts out over the drip tray. There is also a hole in the shell of the machine that has the steam wand coming out of it....water has also come out of that hole on that occasion.

Well, despite the suggestion that was made on this forum, the problem still remains. I have not tried a new gasket because I am not sure which gasket it would be. I still think the water is leaking from somewhere other than the group head. I have looked at the schematics on the ascaso webpage (which are really small and impossible to read without paying for some kind of repair manual)....it just made me realize how many parts could be causing the issue. I have also taken the machine apart to see if anything was obviously wrong. All I can say is that the water is running across the metal plate that is in the top of the machine and then streaming out of whatever hole it meets first. I am wondering if it could be leaking from the boiler. I am still using this machine daily despite the issue (out of desperation, I guess). I am still looking for a fix, obviously.

Correct, inside the grouphead their is a gasket which is the same diameter as the filterholter which make the perfect fit so the presure of the water will not leak out. So now either the gasket is damage in one point so you have the leak from that point. Second the gasket have become hard so it can not make perfect fit with filter holder. In both above case you have to replace the gasket. Finally their is aposibility that the gasket is dirty with coffee remains and again we can not have a perfect fit. You can use a hard brash with the water running so you can clean the gasket.
With this case you can unsrew also the shower from the grouphead and clean it also for better coffe results

I am having the same issue. I'm going to see if I can find the gasket and replace. Did this work for you? I will take lots of pictures to document my repair in case it works.

Hi Stina,
If the group is leaking from the ascaso dream while making a coffee you need to replace the group gaskets.
There 2 types:
The old one pre 2012 Ascaso Dream gasket kit versitale version
and the new one for ascaso machines produced after 2012 Ascaso gasket kit plus 9 2012.
You can just replace the group gaskets but you would be better descaling and replacing all the gaskets.

If when you switch on the machine and the water is cold then, you should replace the boiler element.
There are a number of ascaso boiler elements, depending on the year. Dream Arc Basic Ellipse Page 2
It it works and you get steam , then the boiler is fine.
It may be that wires are loose inside?

I have an Ascaso Dream - pod only version. I would like to know if the portafilter is replaceable. I want to exchange it with the model that does both ground and pod coffee. Thx, Rasmus from Denmark

Hi Rasmus,
If your model is pod only - fixed version - then it is not possible to replace the group.
If you have a pod portafilter then it is possible.
You will need: . a new portafilter and ground converter kit Ground coffee converter Kit ASCASO porta filter complete

Ascaso Dream water leak & bad shots

Hi
Sounds like you have a leak in the system. If your handy, you can remove the top. Remove everything. Water tank included. Unplug the machine. Now turn the machine upside down on a towel. There are 2 screws behind the brew head. Remove them, then lift the machine off the top and set it right side up. Now you can see the inside of the machine where the boiler is. Do not touch anything inside the machine. Replace everything and plug the machine in. Now turn the machine on and try to make a shot the same way. This should show you where your trouble is. Once you see where the trouble is, unplug the machine. Contact seattlecoffeegear.com, or 1st-line.com. They can help.

The water pump for my Ascaso Dream isnt working. A very loud obnoxious noise is being made everytime we turn it on, but no water is getting through.

Hi there,
It does sound like the pump. If it isn't sucking any water up and it is very noisy then it is def the pump. I can get these for you if you are still looking.

All the best
