Hi,

Most Magic Chef dishwashers use a mechanism called a 'wax motor' to trigger the dispenser to open. The first thing to check is the area around the latch of the soap dispenser. Clean that area if there is a soap residue or anything that might be causing the latch to stick, it should move pretty free.

If you use tablets rather than powder or liquid make sure the door closes without having to add pressure, what I mean by this is that if the tablet is too big and puts pressure on the soap dispenser door it may not open properly all the time.

Make sure when you load the dishwasher with dishes that nothing big is blocking the area where the dispenser door opens up into.

If all these things are in order, the problem is most likely a failure of the wax motor itself.

The part number for the wax motor is 902899

Here is a breakdown of the dispenser and where the wax motor goes, it is part number 1 here. To get access you will need to take the door apart as the part is inside the door panel.

The soap door will not open during wash cycle, I tried both short wash & reg wash.

The only experience that I have with this type problem was from having dishes blocking the soap door. You can tell if this is the problem when you open the door. The soap door will then open and the soap will run down the door.

Dishwasher not washing and leaving residue on dishes

We have the same problem with the soap dish. I found that we have to be careful how the dishes are in the bottom rack. Sometimes the dishes will block the cover on the soap dispenser and keep it from opening.

My whirlpool dishwasher soap dispenser is apparently not opening during cleaning. I find dirty dishes and clumps of soap in the hopper. Whirlpool quiet partner II

I bet your clumps of soap began with the beginning of the use of a different DW detergent powder.

Try this (trust me) Go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) Use it for two loads of dishes and report your results back here. OK?

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.

OLD KITCHENAIDE MODEL KDI-20 LEAVES SOAP GRANULES ON DISHES.

I have this same problem, plus the pre-wash soap dispenser doesn't open sometimes even though a service guy replaced that. Could he have replaced just one side and not the other? this dishwasher also has a new motor. sometimes it washes beautifully. but other times it does not. even if both dispensers opened.

Soap dipenser

Try this... Wipe out the soap dish with white vinegar and a soft cloth.. make sure you get everything off the edges of the door and look for any nicks, blemishes or deformation of the dispenser door to make sure it is not mechanically binding up when it is cycled open. If Ok.. then.. clean your drain filter.. then.. start a wash cycle using the hottest setting ( without any dishes) .. and after about 10 minutes or so.. stop the process and open the door and add in 2 cups of white vinegar.. Let it complete the wash cycle.. When complete..try running a dishless cycle on any setting with detergent ( use about 1/3 less than you usually use) and see if that dispense adequately. If that works, then the next time you load the washer. make sure you don't have anything up against or limiting the door from opening. Hope this helps..

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.

Dishwasher soap dispenser won't open during cycle

I had the same problem with my GE Adora. The dishes were getting cloudy and the soap dispenser would not open. Turns out the hard water deposits were causing the soap dispenser to stick shut. I purchased and used Dishwasher Magic which is a dishwasher cleaner designed to remove limescale, rust and buildup. I used as directed and now my dishes are sparkling and the soap dispenser pops right open.
