Up/light/loose for light weight fabrics and down/lower/tigher for heavier weight fabrics is the best I can describe the settings.

If there is a knob that you turn; right is tight and left is loose.

It seems the problem is the excess pressure of the foot when down.. it must somehow be related to thread tension.. can I change foot pressure?

Depends on the make/model of your machine. Most machines do have a pressure adjustment for the presser foot. Sometimes it is explained in the owner's manual.

Newer machines have a dial somewhere. Older machines will have a screw at the very top of the presser foot bar (sometimes under the top cover). Turning the screw right will increase the pressure, left will release it. Other machines have a plunger type projection on the top left of the machine. Pushing the plunger down will increase the presser foot pressure. To release the plunger, press down on the ring that encircles the plunger.

Can you adjust the needle assembly up higher for thicker garments like thicker coats etc. on Kenmore sewing mach. model 158-13360

On some machines, you can lighten the amount of pressure the presser foot applies to the fabric. (Some machines do not have this capability.) But, you don't want to adjust the height of the presser foot.

If the fabric is pushing in front of the presser foot as you are sewing, you might want to try using a walking foot, a teflon foot, or a roller foot.

Kenmore 158 13360 Sewing Machine If this is like your machine, the pressure adjustment is the upright pin at the top left side of the machine. The inner pin pushes down (in various degrees), the further it is pushed down, the more pressure the presser foot applies. To release the inner pin, press down on the outer ring of the pin. It will snap back up where you can again push the inner pin down in degrees. BTW, it is a good idea to always release this pressure pin when you store the machine. If not, what happens is, over time the spring that applies the pressure becomes compressed and no longer applies pressure like it should.

How do I Lower the pressure foot for sewing after changing from embroidery on my brother pc- 8500?

Would a manual help?

Brother PC 8500 User Manual

Are the feed dogs in the raised position? Is it a regular stitch presser foot or a darning foot? A darning foot is shorter in height so the fabric can be maneuvered without use of the feed dogs. Just some ideas. Could also be an embroidery setting that has not been deactivated.

Why will the feed dogs on my singer stylist 834 only move if the pressure foot is up?

Sounds more like a settings issue than a repair.

I can't start to sew on my 830. The foot control is recognized(the start/stop button light goes off when I press the foot control), but does not make the presser foot come down. It worked 15 minutes ago...

If you lower the pressure foot before you press the foot control does it sew then? If so, then some how in your setting menu you auto pressure foot setting has gotten turned off.

Supposedly, Simplicity is made for Tacony. I would start there to ask about parts.

Is this a presser foot lifter?

I do not recall ever seeing a pressure foot lifter.

The top spool of thread jams tight when I pull the

It sounds like the tension setting is too tight. The tension mechanism consists of two metal disks; the thread runs between these disks. When the pressure foot is down, the disks come together, trapping the thread between them. When the pressure foot is up, the disks separate and the thread can flow freely. (BTW, this is why you adjust the tension with the pressure foot down.)

Take a look at your tension setting and try loosening it. That should resolve the problem.

Let me know if this helps, ok?
