Question about Durabrand DWT1304 13" TV

1 Answer

Intermittant sound Some days we always have sound. Other days, when the sound stops, we can get it back by turning the TV off and then on, after a minute or two, using the remote. If this doesn't work, we try using the sound controls on the TV's face. At other times, nothing works but to leave the set off and hope we'll have sound for our night-time viewing. After a few hrs of rest, it always works fine. Our son just hooked up a Magnavox DVD player for us and we could see the film running right away but no sound. We re-checked his hook-up using M's DVD Instruction Manual and it looks fine to us. Now, since none of our old actions to get sound have worked, we wonder if it's just another of those time-out times or has the DVD hook-up affected the TV. I'm in my early 80s and not too familiar with most of the electronic jargon so be forewarned. Thanks much!

A 42 or 46'' Samsung picture shuts off but still has sound

Remove all video inputs including hdmi if problem goes away. Determine what input is suspect and call smasung for a firmware upgrade. HDMI casued intermittant behavior with this series, but was sometimes seen on component video.

Tv turns off and on, off and on off and on...

It sounds like there is a possiblity that something is failing in the power supplie or the scan circuits. This can be anything from a failing component(s) to a cold solder connection.

I also found with the RCA sets that when there are intermittant failures they are very sensitive to have their EPROM programing go corrupted. This is something that only the RCA factory service rep, or a TV shop who has the knowledge about it, has the setup, and can re-program it.

Sounds like it has an intermittant connection somewhere which is very common now a days due to the lead-free solder all the makers went to. Resolder everything that looks suspicious, especially the bigger components. It could also be a failure of the flyback transformer though which often times fail like this.
Hope Ya Fix It.

You have a bad connection on the CRT board thats mounted on the end of the picture tube it sounds like, or the socket on that board that plugs into the TV set is intermittant or has a bad solder connection on it. Good Luck

I could be wrong, but, from your description it looks like a cold solder, most probably in the Filament Heater circuit. If you are well versed in Solid State Electronics, I suggest you look for a loose solder or joint. Shut OFF the TV, Open the rear cover and chech for any dry dolder or loose coonections. Start with the CRT Neck PCB. Follow the tracks from the two Heater Pins (Marked H H) on the base). Also, gently remove the Neck PCB gently from the Picture tube, and (very carefully, mind you!) clean the Picture tube Contact Pins. Again, very slowly and gently, replace the PCB. Try your TV again. Let me know if the problem is solved. As for the second problem, ( less brightness) how old is your TV? Over time the emission from the Picture tube Electrodes becomes less, and picture quality detoriates. If set is over 6-7 yrs old, or if you are a heavy user - that is, you have your TV switched on for 6-8 hours a day, it is time to go for a trade-in. But, if you are very attached to the TV, you can always take it to a service shop, where they will re-condition the Picture Tube for a modest amount. It's life will get extended by a couple of years.

it sounds like a b+ cap going bad and is intermittant that feeds the the video drivers on the crt pcb or the crt is shorting. I have seen intermittant shorts in crt before.
