Question about Symbol MC9090 Barcode Scanner

1 Answer

We are running Wavelink or Avalanche software on the MC9090. Unfortunately, the top and bottom of the screen is being used seemingly by the Options and Wavelink toolbars, respectively. This reduces the amount of usable screen space. How do I suppress these toolbars to reclaim the precious screen space?

The setting to hide the options menu and start bar can be done within the Emulation Parameters on a host PC.
From the main switch board run "Emulation Parameters" and then expand >>Emulation>>Display

This will give you a wide range of options which are useful to you:-

  • Hide Horizontal Scroll Bar
  • Hide Menu
  • Hide Vertical Scroll Bar
  • Start Menu
I would then set a key within:-

Menu Toggle Key

So that you could bring it up at any time when required. Most people use <CTRL><M> which is in fact <C><0x4D> (from memory).

Hope this helps.

You can also do it within the gun itself.

To hide that start bar (if running Win CE and Not Windows Mobile:-

From the start menu, select [Settings] and then [Taskbar and Start Menu].
From the pop up box you can then untick >>Always on top<< and if you like tick >>Auto hide<< (but this option wouldn't make much difference.

    To hide the options menu:-
Within the Wavelink TE program (in this example using TelnetCE version 7.0.82).

    [Options], [Configure] and then [Emulation].

You are then prompted for "Input Terminal Config Password"
    The default password is 'config'

If you haven't got a host profile setup it will prompt you to configure one.

Once you are at the [Settings] stage find the Tab marked display.

You can then hide the following:-

    • Menu

    • Vertical Scroll Bar

    • Horizontal Scroll Bar

    • Keypad

You can also set keys here to hide and show the menu and keypad.

    Hope this helps.

I have a mc9o9o hand held computer once the windows based porgram starts I can not get back to the desk top or to the start screen is there any set of keys to press to get it to open?

It sounds like the Terminal has been setup to run an application from start up and then taskbar and menus locked so you are unable to break out of the software.

There is usually an admin break out built into software apps, be it the Wavelink TE application or a custom app. If you don’t know the passwords though you will be stuck.

What you will need is a few files and an SD card. You can then blank out the application folder and return the terminal back to defaults. The SD card slot is located under the keypad. You need to take out the 2 screws holding the keypad in place and pull the keyboard down and then lift it off.

Once the files are placed onto the SD card refit the keyboard and cold boot the device.

Cannot read symbologie/BarCode: i25(interleaved 2 of 5) from an MC9090-G running VT100 emulation. How do I configure the scanner within Telnet-CE/Wavelink?? Thanks. Dante Barboza

Hello,

You will need to configure the telnet emulator from your pc first and download it to the terminal after.

Check the version of telnet emulator you have. To do this, go to the options menu on the emulator and click on about wavelink.

Register yourself on www.wavelink.com and download the same client version as installed on the terminal. (Don't forget to download the Active sync version.

Tweak all the configuration parameters on the emulator once you have installed it on your pc also enable i2of5 symbology and then download the config only to the terminal.

It's not like your old DOS scan guns where there was a definite number of characters (rows and columns) that could fit on the screen. Instead, it runs Windows Mobile or Windows CE, which has a graphical interface (like your PC). It comes preloaded with terminal software from Wavelink to connect to your AS400, and you can set how large or small you want the font to be in that terminal emulator. So the answer is, the "lines per screen" and "characters per line" can pretty much be as many or as few as you want. It's a trade-off between how much you can fit on the screen and how well you can read it if you were to choose a font size that is too small.

I will say that Wavelink does a good job with this emulator at allowing you to scroll around the screen though. If there is anything that won't fit on the screen, you can just press the Ctrl key and then use the up/down/left/right arrows to page around the screen.
