This may be unfortunate, but it's plain and simple. Either SYNAPTICS POINTING DEVICE which can be found 'C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP' on your laptop i corrupted or infected, or your touch pad is buggered. Hope this was of some help and if you have anymore problems just post them.

Use a mouse and push the off button for the touch pad, thats the only way. If you opened it up, im sure theres an LED you could disconnect for the satellite logo, or put some black model paint on it..sounds ghetto...but it is what it is

Hi,
did you tried to reinstall the touchpad driver? if not you can try to install it,
if you dont have the Driver with you. Download It HERE To download:
Select Operating System> Windows 7(your version) Driver Type> Touchpad Then Click Search

DELL xps touchpad

Sounds like a driver glitch, from the device manager, try uninstalling it, then do a hardware search, it will locate it and reinstall the drivers automatically. If this doesn't solve the issue, then the touch pad has failed and needs replacing.

THE 4-way scroll button IN MY ASPIRE 5100 DOESNT WORK

Double click the icon in the toolbar. Click the device settings tab and then hit setting. select buttons in the list on the left side. Hit the plus sign(maximize) and select scroll up button action....scroll down button action...Etc. For each action select what you want it to do and just hit apply and move to the next. Once you have selected the action for scroll up, down , left, and right hit apply again just to be sure and try it. It should work. I just did it on my 5630 but Im assuming it works the same.
