Hi,
You probably melted things internally, like the impeller on the pump. These things need to run a close tolerances to work and pump water. Running it for a long time with no water over heates, melts or warps the internal parts. You need to pull the pump part apart and see if it can be repaired. Quite possibly you have ruined the pump completely...

Hello .. when the pump motor got overheated qas much as you said, you may have softened the plastic impellar of the pump. You will have to separate the motor from the pump and see if the impellar is still attached to the motor shaft. You may be able to rescue your oops with buying a new i9mpeller.

Be very careful, it sounds like an electrical failure, were the machine has cut out to protect you and itself. You need an expert there and quickly. Water and electric are a bad mix and more house fires are caused by washers than most other appliances.

Sounds like a bad water pump or radiator. Make sure the radiator fins arent clogged or inside of radiator, water pump not circulating the coolant properly will also cause overheating, old coolant will not properly dissipate heat efficiently and may need flushed. Also make sure the coolant has a 50% mix of water as the water does most of the cooling not the antifreeze. Hope this gives you some good places to start.

Many times a problem like yours can be traced to a failing fuel pump. When it gets hot it binds and stops, later after it cools off it functions normally 'till it gets hot again. Next time is dies, immediately turn the key off, then to the run position and listen for the pump (humming in tank) if you don't hear it, likely that's the problem. Never buy parts without testing though. A pump alone can set you back over $200.!!!
