Question about GALAXY Microsystems 63702 Top Freezer Refrigerator
The automatic defrost system is made up of 3 components. The main defrost heater, mounted to the bottom of the cooling coil,
and a defrost thermostat which is mounted to the top of that same coil but clipped to the top. It is a round disk approx 1" in diameter.
You can access both by removing the back panel in the freezer compartment. The thermostat can be checked with a vom meter but must be below 25 degrees to test properly. It should read zero ohms of resistance. The main heater can be tested the same way and should have a resistance reading of less than 35 ohms.
Here are 2 examples of both. Yours may appear different.
The last item is the defrost control itself. It may be a mechanical timer or an electronic defrost control. It is located in the roof of the fresh food compartment behind the main controls.
Here is an excellent tutorial on defrost systems.
