How do I fix the electrical outlets in our family room? The room has 5 outlets, one of which works. The other four have no electricity. I replaced one outlet but that did not correct the problem

Check for any tripped breakers. Make sure a wall switch is not controlling any of them or that they are not on a GFCI circuit. If all OK, turn power off to outlet that works. Remove the covers from each outlet, and pull the outlets out of each box as far as you can, but leave the wires attached to the plug, making sure none of the wires contact any part of the box if its metal. Look at the wires attached at each outlet if they are not attached to the side screw terminals, but rather pushed into the back instead, note the way each is attached, then either cut them off as close to the plug as you can or pull them out of the back. Now reattach them in the correct place but put them on the screw terminals instead. Make sure all wires are secure. Turn on the power and carefully test each outlet for power. If they all work, turn off power, replace everything and your good. If still no power at any of them determine which outlet(s) have only one cable entering the box. The boxes with one cable will either be on its own circuit, or the last one in the run. The boxes with 2 at least 2 cables will be the middle of the run and one of those will be the one with the power supply for all of the others. If you don't have a signal tracer try locating tracing the wires from the 2 wired boxes in the basement, one of those wires is the feed and could be disconnected at a junction box or at the service panel.

Cd payer will not play

Make sure it's plugged into an electrical outlet that works. Is the power cord removable? If so, then make sure it is inserted completely. Again of it is removable, then you might have accidentally gotten the DVD player's power cord mixed up with another removable power cord from something else. Sometimes, the power cord will have the DVD player's name on it.

No power , computer will not turn on

Hi, IF the system is not turning on any more, try removing the power cable, then press the power button for 10 seconds. then try to power it on again . If it is still not powering up there could be an issue wiht the power supply of the computer. But if it start to turn on, like showing the Sony logo then windows but not going to the desktop. you can try to log on using safemode. you can go there by pressing F8 on the keyboard after turning on the computer. If it still not turning on even on safe mode. there couldbe an issue with the operating system of the computer and needs to be reinstalled.
Thank you for using Fixya, your recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.

My tv won t turn on i just purchased it today i plugged it in and it won t turn on

Check the electrical outlet which the tv is plugged into. Make sure nothing is loose at the outlet as well as on the back of the tv where the power cable plugs in. Another thing to try is plug a different device into that same electrical outlet and see if it turns on. If it doesn't turn on, it could be a faulty electrical outlet. If you've tried both the remote & the power button on the tv, a shot in the dark would be to change the batteries in the remote.
You could always try calling their tech support at 1-800-256-2487. A last resort would be to return the tv from where you purchased it.

Humming sound,very noisey.

Hi,

There are usually three reasons for the hum many of us guitarists experience. First, make sure it's not coming from your patch cable you use to connect to your amp. Guitarists who have been playing a while know that these cords need regular replacement.

Another common problem is the electrical outlet it's being plugged into. Often times, if plugged into a different outlet, preferably one that it does not have to share, your amp noise can be reduced.

A great product to have is a line hum reducer, which you plug into the outlet, then plug into that. They are great at reducing line hum, and usually listed on eBay or another retail online establishment dealing with electronics and electrical products. They can range from $7.00 to over $40.00, and in the case of these hum reducers, more expensive does not usually mean better.

Finally, another common and particularly annoying problem with regard to hum, is if your guitar's components are not properly shielded. Even if it comes from a good company adn is a good model, one may have to do some additional work to get it quiet.

Pickups and other electrical equipment inside a guitar pick up and transfer many frequencies of white noise, and it can be a real problem.

Your pickups and your electronics cavity can be completely shielded by using copper tape you can find on the internet. I purchase mine on eBay but you can find it at many places.

The tape is a flat copper strip with adhesive backing. It comes in different widths, even small sheets to cover the inside back of your electronics cover in back of your guitar. The pots should be loosened from the body of the guitar and pulled (gently) enough to work in the cavity (no need usually to remove them - so no cutting of wires and resoldering is necessary in MOST models).

Loosen the screws and pull your pickups and surround them with the tape, and insulate the pickup cavities you pulled them out of as well. Do not remove your pickups completely - just move them out of the way as you work. Be careful not to pull apart any of your solder connections, or you will have to resolder or pay someone to resolder them. More work than necessary.

So these are the big top three. They are all non-complicated fixes, and following the steps I wrote should get you noticed for your guitar playing, and not for your humming.

I hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do I remove an old dishwsher? The electrical wiring?

Is this wired directly to the Breaker/fuse box?
Or is there an electrical outlet socket under the sink that this plugs into?
Possibly for the former you may need to turn off the breaker, remove the fuse to turn off the power. Unscrew the machine where it is attached to the counter and pull it out from the counter. Where the wire is attached to the machine, unscrew it and remove it from the machine. The machine's drain hose should be removed from the drain where it is attached to the disposal or the drain pipe. Then you can discard the old machine.
If there is an electric socket that the power is plugged into unplug and follow the rest of the procedure. Otherwise after removing the machine, get an electrician to install a plug outlet so that your new machine can be plugged into the wall socket and alleviate this problem in the future.
