Question about Maytag MAV8600 Top Load Washer

Maytag mav3700aaw Wont Spin and then defaults back to rinse

I have a Maytag mav3700aaw. The problems r ...loud "clunk" sound between different cycles. and will not spin...seems to go out of balance immediately, then another loud clunk and it defaults back to the rinse cylce. Then continually repeats all of the above.

Have checked, and all 4 seem to be in place. However I can push the bowl with ease to touch the sides of the machine. Is this the norm?

  • grazza720 May 06, 2010

R we talking abt the same machine? mine is the mav3700aaw and has 4 rods (springs?) basically at each corner of the tub. cheers, and thanx! grahame

    PS

Hey there John...should the springs be clearly visible when looking thru from the rear panel?

  • grazza720 May 06, 2010

How big r they...app length? And do all Maytag washing machines have them?

  • grazza720 May 06, 2010

I relation to the visible pully where should a spring be?

  • grazza720 May 06, 2010

Cool, it has none! ??? Do they clip into plastic holes/brackets or metal brackets. I can see 6 plastic lugs/holes (3 either side) that could poss. have a bracket screwed into them but nothing 2 obvious at the base of the machine. Is there a link where I can view a detail of this?

  • grazza720 May 06, 2010

Remove the rear access cover and check if any of the suspension springs is detached from the tub braces and the suspension housing. The suspension springs make the drum centered and prevent an off balance situation that results in vibration and banging of the drum into the outer tub. Reinstall any detached spring then run a cycle to verify the operation of the washer.

Recheck the suspension spring because there are suppose to be six of them as it is sold as a set of six. Three are attached to the three tub braces and three in between the braces spaced equally. Run the washer and observe how it behaves and where the clank is coming from.

You might be referring to dampers or shock absorbers that are attached to the outer tub. The springs are attached to the suspension housing and the tub braces directly below the tub. If possible, please post a photo of the transmission assembly as I cannot find your model in my list of Maytag washers. The parts I'm referring are based on a Maytag model nearest to the model number of your washer.

Reduce the image size by right-clicking on the image then select Open With and select Paint. In the Paint window, press Ctrl + W then under Stretch reduce the horizontal and vertical dimensions until the image size is enough to be posted.

Yes, the springs are directly visible from the rear directly below the tub.

These spring are about 7 inches total length and about 1 inch in diameter. All Maytag MAV are top load models and have the suspension springs. Check this link to see what it looks like.

Here is the service manual; download and save it immediately because the link will be deactivated in the next few hours. The spring are shown on pages 22 and 24.

Also include the serial number of the washer.

Looks like the model of your is new and it is frustrating to know that very limited information about the model of you washer is available besides the fact that it is Korean made. I cannot even find parts for the said model to check if it has suspension springs or dampers/shock absorbers instead.

Can you post a photo of the 4 rods you stated previously?

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 May 06, 2010

Those are indeed the outer tub suspension rods and may be worn causing the whole tub to be pushed easily against the walls and most likely the reason why the tub goes off balance easily. Contact Maytag Australia.

Clunking/thumping with spin cycle, reduces as spin speed increase

It's hard to tell without looking at the washer. But my first response would be that the transmission is wearing out. Inside the plastic cover for the adgitator is a metal drive stem. This assembly has a pulley on the bottom where your motor attaches to; inside the bottom of your washer. It is quite common after many years that these go bad. Have you ever noticed unexplained grease or other stains on your clothes after they came out of the wash?

MAYTAG WASHER THAT WAS IN MID CYCLE AND STOPPED AT THE RINSE AND SPIN PART. TURNED OFF THE WASHER AND TURNED ON BUT MAKES A CLICKING NOISE. ALSO LOUD WHEN ITS IN THE SPIN CYCLE. HELP!!!

Sounds like the clutch spring is broken. You should have a UC or DC error code showing on the display. Only fix is to replace the clutch assembly.

Loud noise during washing/rinsing cycles

I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.

NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.

Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.

Can anyone help.???

Washer won't agitate or spin out.

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.
