I have hp iPAQ 5555, ROM: 1.00.13 ENG, OS: Win-CE 4.2. Issue started 3 days ago. When powered on: Error msg: "Failed to start background reading (status=5, error=102, retCode=0). Perform a normal reset and try again" Fingerprint scanner does not scan or allow access, but I can login using PIN. Active sync is OK. and other functions I use seem OK. I've tried soft and hard reset, no change. Well past any warranty. I've never done a ROM reload, but interested. Thanks, in advance for any assistance, JM - hogan_jm@hotmail.com

After reading many posts, I thought I was headed for a ROM upgrade at the very least, but I came across 1 that said "Remove battery for 5 seconds - it's fixed every iPAQ problem I've had". Too simple I thought, but low risk, so I tried it - it worked! No more error message & the fingerprint scanner works once again!

Good point, I'm in total agreement (if it happened once, it could happen again, with no assurrance that the easy fix would work).

Please provide me the pda model you have and an email adress.
Also please tell me what language should the rom file be. If I don't find that specific language I'll send the english standard one.

Jvm 102 my blackberry 8900

Hi,

Here is a temporary solution if you don't want to return your defective BlackBerry and loose all your informations:

JVM 102 error means that a .cod file on your BlackBerry seems to be corrupt. By doing the following steps, you will have a chance to backup your BlackBerry and re-install the OS.

1. Download and install JL_Cmder. You can find it on the web by Google it, or you can go to this web page: http://www.blackberryfreaks.com/JL_Cmder.html

2. Connect your BlackBerry to your PC.

3. Start JL_Cmder and select the option 2 (Event log).

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the log and look for "JVM Error 102." The line before it, should tell you exactly what file is causing the error. Save the file name; you will need it later.

5. Go to Start / Run, and type "CMD" and press Enter.

6. Change directory to the JL_Cmder installation folder.e.g., type: cd "C:\Program Files\JL_Cmder\" and press enter.

7. Type the following command to remove the corrupted file:javaloader.exe -u erase -f FILENAME where FILENAME is the name of the corrupted .cod file.

8. Disconnect your BlackBerry from your PC and restart it.

9. Now you should be able to start BlackBerry Desktop Manager and take a backup of your device. (Optional).

10. Reactive your BlackBerry

11. Restore your backup from BlackBerry Desktop Manager. (Optional).

What does JUM error 102 mean on my blackberry?

1. According to rim, the jvm 102 error is caused by a hardware issue....(a suspected 3rd party chip in the ptn)....simply loading hh software is a temp fix. it WILL reoccur again and again, sometimes in only days.

take it to service and repair, once verified that this is the jvm 102 error, they (the s&r dealer) are supposed to give you a refurbished or new ptn. if they have to ship one to you it is supposed to ship within 24 hours. they are also supposed to waive the normal exchange fee of $45.

if they dont do this, call bb supprt from the store and the rep from tier 2 will talk to the dealer and set him straight for you....
2. To fix this error, you will have to simply plug your BB into your PC and run the application loader.

If it is asking you for a password, the old user may have set this via security settings. If you do not know the password, entering it 10 times incorrectly with reset the BB to factory defaults

Unknown SIM status. (Error 0)

You may try switching off your phone and removing your battery for 20 + minutes. Purchasing a new sim won't help you out.

You may be in need for a ROM update/reinstall. It is pretty easy to do that. You can either go at HP's web site and download a ROM update for your specific model. Make shure you select your operating sistem rigt. Or you can browse the internet for a specific ROM update for your model. I recomand the HP site, and if you have problems regarding the ROM update process, or the ROM and OS version you need, please reply here and I'll guide you throught. Good luck.

If you did a "hard" reset and it doesn't work, it's a hardware problem... Send it in for repair.
