You cannot factor a polynomial with the help of this calculator. It does not have a Computer Algebra System or CAS. You can factor it approximately.

  1. You can however rewrite the equation 7k^2+23k+6=0 in the canonical form X^2+ (23/7)X+(6/7)=0
  2. Calculate its discriminant Delta= (23/7)^2-4*(6/7), which is positive, meaning that real solutions exist.
  3. Calculate the two roots x1 and x2 (approximately).
  4. The polynomial can be factored as (X-x1)(X-x2)

Here is the link to a casio program written by a user. Program is called TRINOME. Download it in format .cat or .fxi and transfer to your calculator using the appropriate transfer software and the appropriate cable.
Caveat: the web page is in French.

Here is another program that shows the factored out form of the trinomial. Sorry again: program messages are in French.

How do I get all the factors of a constant using my calculator?

There is a program on page 253 of the manual (http://support.casio.com/manualfile.php?rgn=5&cid=004002013) to get the prime factors of any number. You could modify the program to get all the factors.

Another way would be to do it manually. I start with the number 1 and go up to the square root of the number. The square root of 120 is 10.95, so let's go up to 11. Using 120 as an example:

120 /1 = 120 thus factor is (1, 120)
120/2 = 60 thus factor is (2, 60)
120/3 = 40 thus factor is (3, 40)
120/4 = 30 thus factor is (4, 30)
120/5 = 24 thus factor is (5, 24)
120/6 = 20 thus factor is (6, 20)
120/7 = 1.7 thus 7 not a factor
120/8 = 15 thus factor is (8,15)
120/9 = 13.3 thus 9 is not a factor
120/10 = 12 thus factor is (10,12)
120/11 = 10.9 thus 11 is not a factor.

Good luck.

Find the derivitive of sin(cosx)

The 9750GII doesn't have symbolic capabilities so it can't give you a symbolic answer for this. It can evaluate it numerically at any point.

The derivative of sin(cos(x) dx is cos(cos(x))-sin(x).

Is my fx-300 capable of factoring trinomials?

Sorry, but no! it is not capable of factoring anything. It can however solve for the roots of a polynomial equation.Write your polynomial as P(X)= a(X² +(b/a)X+c/a) =0. Use the calculator to solve the polynomial equation X² +(b/a)X+c/a =0 and find the roots X1, and X2. You will then be able to write the original polynomial as P(X)=a(X-X1)(X-X2). Beware that by using the calculator, the values of the roots are approximate.

I don't have a mechanical problem with the calculator, but I have a question. Will my Casio factor quadratic trinomials?

Natively, the calculator cannot factor polynomials because it does not have a Computer Algebra System or (CAS). You can however find the roots of the polynomial equation P(x)=0 and factor approximately.

On the Internet, there is a program which you can download and transfer to your calculator. Here is the link (the page is in French).
