Question about GE WBSR3140DW Top Load Washer

2 Answers

I have a GE Model #: WJRE5550KWW washer. It will not spin or agitate. THe bin fills up with water and it appears to go through all cycles but it never spins or washes. The fabric softener is always still in the cup when the cycle is done.

I did check the lid switch and it is operating correctly. It sounds like the motor is running, it is hard to tell because the washing machine is fairly quiet unless it is agitaing or spinning--when spinning it has a tendency to thump. How do I determine if the belt has come off?

It appears to go through all cycles. wash, rinse, drain. How can I be sure if the lid switch is operating correctly? Isen't it magnetic?

  • hollyfrederi May 05, 2010

I tested the switch with a magnet last night and it does indeed click. I will have to check the motor when I get home.

  • hollyfrederi May 06, 2010

I checked and the motor is not running.

  • hollyfrederi May 06, 2010

How do I get to the motor? How do you get the front panel off?

  • hollyfrederi May 06, 2010

I was able to locate a document that listed the error codes from the inverter LED....the LED was flashing 2 times which apparently means the belt is slipping. I adjusted the belt and reset the inverter/motor. it is spinning fine now. thanks

This washer is notorious for breaking belts. The washer has an electronic motor, operated by a computer. If you overload machine belt will eventually wear and break or computer just needs to be reset. Try resetting first, this is easy, unplug machine for 2 minutes, plug back in and open and close lid 7 times, this will reset motor and computer. Now try machine see if it runs through cycles correct. If not try it again. If still does not work unplug machine and Take off front cover of washer, look in seam where top meets front, you will see on each side a clip, push a flat head screwdriver into clip to release each one. Front will pull back and slide it up to remove. Check belt, if you see a lot of black ground material in bottom you have bad belt. Replace belt. You should have problem solved. If not let me know we will go to next step. But I believe this will solve your problem.

Check first whether the motor is running or not by listening to it while the washer is in the wash or spin cycle. The drive belt has slipped off the drum pulley or has been broken if the motor runs but the washer does not agitate or spin. Check the lid switch assembly if the motor is not running at all and replace it if necessary.

The washer will not advance to the rinse or spin cycle if the lid switch is not activated and the reason why the fabric softener is still in the dispenser cup. It did not advance to the rinse cycle and water is not supplied to the washer causing the fabric softener not be dissolved and dispensed.

The lid switch is indeed magnetic because it is actually a reed switch and it clicks when the lid is closed. You can use a magnet and place it near the door switch and check if you can hear it click.

You can check the motor if it is running by holding a screwdriver or similar tool against the washer cabinet at the bottom part and while holding the handle tightly, press your ear against your thumb. You will hear at least a minor vibration if the motor is running.

Then it is most likely a belt issue. Feel free to give us an update.

The motor and inverter assembly needs to be checked; check the motor for a worn brush and the inverter for a blown fuse.

The front panel can be removed by removing the top cover first. The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by clips. Pry the clips and release it to lift the top cover off the cabinet.

Sorry for the delayed response due to time zone difference.

The reason why I ask you to determine if the motor is running is for a possible belt issue. We base our advice on the information given to us. Good job!

I have a GE WJRE5550KWW it fills and drains but will not agitate or spin

Possible bad lid switch. On that model the lid switch is the flat plastic square on the right front recess area that the lid closes into. The switch is activated by a magnet mounted on the washer lid on the front right corner.

I have a GE washer model # WHDRR418GWW. It is about 19 months old. It stopped agitating and spinning. It will fill with water and the timer/knob will go thru the cycles. But when it reaches the washing...

You have what is called "agitating dogs" there are usually 4 of them at the bottom of the agitator. They have small grippers which lock onto the agitator and agitates. If the washer is ever overfilled or over time filled to heavy this will wear down the nylon teeth on the "dogs". The top of the agitator will spin off, you will see a bolt inside at the bottom, remove bolt and the agitator will pull out. Google "agitating dogs on washer. It will give you pictures for a better understanding. If the belt was broken the washer would not drain, because the belt turns the pump. These dogs are about $5 and honestly easy to install. Good Luck.

Water runs but doesn't fill tub and wont spin if put on spin cycl

The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.

GE Washer WJSR2080V3WW will fill, spin and drain but not agitate.

The problem is the agitator coupler (about $ 7.00) simply pull straight up on the agitator - Give it a good tug. take the one bolt holding the coupler off - pull straight off. Replace the coupler and bolt (they are sold together). Line the agitator lines up with the coupler lines - when they line up it should go all the way down and snap back into place. and your done.
