If you are charging your unit with the USB cable STOP - use only a wall plug. The unit will not charge using the USB cable. If you don't have the wall unit - try charging it with the car plug charger for 15 minutes. Just let the car charge it running or not. You will see it work. Once it is charge over half way - the rest will charge up. It is a problem Gamin is working on.

SOURCE: garmin 305 charged-will not turn on-waited

These units seem to be sufering from a bad conection on the inside of the unit. My wife's did the same thing. There was a connection inside that wasn't making contact. First try cleaning the 4 brass connection tabs on the watch and check your charger to make sure the tabs are raised and not squished. Second try to reset the unit. Hit mode reset and power buttons all at the same time. Hold these for 3 seconds and then release. If these do not work here is what I did. There are no screws holding the unit together. I used a exacto blade to very carefully pry the unit apart along the side seam. It's not easy to do. Be very cautious and gentle. Work the thickness of the blade into the joint to gently wedge apart. You are not trying to remove material! Once apart you will see some fingers that make a connection between the upper and lower part of the unit. This is where the problem was with my wife's 305. I gently raised these tabs to make a better connection, It's been working ever since. I didn't try it before but try pressing very hard on the unit where it says Forerunner 305. The case is very hard so it might not work. But if it powers up when pushing you found your problem. Hope this helps. Here is a link I found on opening a 205 (Same process)http://ctorunner.googlepages.com/dismantleforerunner205To put the unit back together use Automotive silicon/gasket maker.Use a tooth pick to put a VERY small amount of silicon around the entire seam. Put the two half's together and wrap tightly with electrical tape. Test the unit immediately to see if it powers on and off. If it does not open it back up and raise the small prongs that make the connection from the bottom half to the top half. If any silicon squishes out the sides wipe with water and a rag.Let the unit sit over night. In the morning remove the tape.

SOURCE: garmin 765 turns on and sais loading maps then

I've had this issue on my Nuvi 1300, where holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would restart the unit, but it would freeze at the "loading maps." part. I ended up plugging the unit into my PC, which started it for purposes of data transfer. I then disconnected it from the PC and it restarted properly.
Try that out and see if you have any better luck.

Which would suggest the battery is not charged, or retaining its charge.
Will it start up if connected to a power supply (USB or DC charger) ?

How to charge garmin 765 on computer

Very simple: connect the cable that came with the GPS: USB end to computer, mini USB to the GPS. When the unit is charging, the battery icon will disappear.

Unfortunately, Garmin did not think you would want to know the percentage of charge completed (they confirmed it to me in email), so you have to guess that after 2-4 hours your GPS is fully charged.

My 765 won't turn on either!

Charge it for at least 12 hours, directly off the charger, then try to usb connect it and run updates. This should work unless you left it long enough to damage the battery.

Hope this helps!!

My 765 cut off and will not turn back on.

Garmin has a major software bug with all of the 7X5 units. My unit just got back from service. If it will not power up you will have to contact Garmin for a RMA number and send it back to them.

Garmin nuvi 765 lithium battery will not hold a charge more than 15 minutes!

This is kind of a late response, but this post may help other people. I had the same issue and was ready to have Garmin exchange my battery until I called them today and spoke to Tech support. They helped me upgrade the firmware on the unit (didnt take long) and so far the problem has been resolved. I have had it on for two hours without fully charging it, which is better than before when it only stayed on for about 20 minutes. I recommend that people with this issue call them first since it appears to be a common issue with this model nuvi.

How to upload MP3 music

Step 1: Plug your Garmin 765 into your computer (Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix) with a USB cable. Step 2: Navigate to the drive named GARMIN (varies by type of computer you have). Step 3: Create a folder in the root for the GARMIN drive called MP3 (in all caps, just like the JPEG folder). Step 4: Copy your MP3 files into this folder. Step 5: Eject the GARMIN drive like any other USB drive. Step 6: Unplug the USB cable as the 765 starts-up. Step 7: Click Menu > Tools > Media Player > Browse Step 8: Enjoy your music!
