Question about Kitchen Ranges

2 Answers

I put a few pieces of butternut squash in a bowl covered with plastic wrap and set oven for 5 min on high. Next thing I noticed a smell and smoke coming out of oven. I imm. pressed clear and waited two hours before opening oven (there was never a flame). Only the food inside the bowl was charred but walls of oven seem discolored slightly and smell is still strong(12 hrs later) Have not used oven yet.

Was the bowl microwave-safe?

Test the unit by placing a glass bowl with water and set for 2 minutes.

Let me know the results.

Thanks!

Just a small cup or bowl.

You're determining if the water changes temperature.

2 cups will boil in about 3 minutes with a 1500W microwave.

Just changing temp is sufficient in your case.

Set it for 1 minute, and stand by so you can stop it if anything seems odd.

    Thanks!

Then you should be good to go.

The oven has a built-in thermal limiter that will prevent it from overheating.

Keep an eye on it over the next few uses. It may have gotten a little too hot - or the skins of the squash werent removed?

    Thanks!!

Unfortunately the plastic panels have absorbed the burn odor.

Use a glass container to boil 2 cups of water and a lemon.

Squeeze the lemon into the water - then drom the peel into the warter. Once the water starts to boil, leave it for an additional 1.5 min to boil. let it cool inside the microwave a few hours - then repeat.

Once finished - wipe out the inside really well... and crumble up some newspapers and place them inside overnight (dont run the microwave). (OR USE CHARCOAL)

The next day remove the newspapers and clean with baking soda and water paste.

You can try 1/2 cup vinegar - and use the same method as above (1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup white vinegar)

You will most likely find the smell remains - but to a lesser extent. Through normal use it should gradually dissipate.

    Thanks!

Hello,

The temperature you must have set the oven might be too high for the oven to bring out such concentrated smoke and smell.

What you need do now is to soak a rag in soapy water and mob all the inside walls of the oven, and ensure you do not soak it with much water.

Leave the oven open after cleaning for some hours to get dry, the smell should reduce drastically.

Take care

Oil level rise on dipstick. Engine producer a dense cloud of white Smoke when running. Engine also runs rough.

Just a few things to check that might help. White smoke is normally caused by a lean running carburetor. Look for two adjustments on the carburetor. The low speed adjustment is a screw about center in the carburetor body. If there are 2 screws, look for a raised letter "L" next to 1 of the screws. Turn this for best run at idle. The high speed adjuster will be on the bottom of the float bowl or the second screw near the first one. Set this one for best run at high speed. High oil in the crank case is harder to detect. Check the crank case breather. It can be anywhere on the crank case. You need to remove a simple, sheet metal cover open at the bottom and normally has 2, 5/16 or 1/4 inch screws holding it on. Under it will be a small, round check valve or a small piece of hog hair. Whatever it is, clean it real well. Sorry this is so brief, its difficult without seeing it.

Microwave is smoking when I use it as a convection oven

It seems to be self cleaning... burning all the oils that coats the inside from microwaving food that wasn't covered. Clean the oven well and to remove bad smells put lemon juice in a bowl and microwave.

Since there was no smoke, it's not a transformer. It's most likely a high voltage diode or magnetron. The magnetron would be over heating and opening a thermal cut out mounted to or near it.

Burning smell motor not working

Unplug the oven and unfasten the cabinet body, using a screwdriver. The body should be attached along the back as well as along the sides or bottom.

Slide the cabinet body back slightly to clear any internal brackets, then lift it off.

Clean the oven, using a vacuum with plastic crevice attachment. Vacuum the fan and other internal parts, then vacuum the vents underneath the oven, on the back and inside the chamber.

Reassemble the oven and plug it in.

Fill a small bowl with a 50-50 mixture of water and white vinegar, then set it in the oven and turn the oven on high for 5 minutes. When the mixture boils, it will remove stubborn smells inside the vents and loosen food particles on the oven walls.

We put a plastic jar with a very small piece of foil on the rim and the microwave started to smoke. it might have run 30 seconds before we noticed it making a funny noise. it is a 1200 watt inverter

    Hello Dwight,

You may have damaged the microwave. Since the oven cavity is a tuned cavity, introducing metal into it can wreck havoc on the magnetron (microwave generator itself).

Did you happen to notice if the smoke was from the plastic jar (plastic heating up from the high temp of the foil ring), or if it was the actual microwave smoking (and not blowing smoke out of the oven cavity from the plastic jar)?

OVEN WILL NOT BAKE , IT WILL BROIL

I have the same problem, I took off the back panel and noticed that the EOC (electronic oven control) board is blackened and most likley need to be replaced. My wife was cooking a pizza and she smelled a burning plastic smell, she looked in the oven and saw the pizza on fire and smoke bellowing from the control panel area. So i unplugged the oven and saw the circuit board did start on fire and fortunatly it went out before serious damage. No matter what you set the oven on the display shows it as being correct, but only the top element comes on and it is on HIGH!!!! DO NOT BUY FRIDGIDAIRE!!!!

I have all pieces locked into place and it will not work! I have the prep 11 plus

First thing to do is check your base to make sure it's not something wrong there. If you take everything off the base and look on top, either in the 6 or 12 o' clock position there will be a black button set into the base slightly. You want to find a ball point pen, and with the base plugged in, press and hold that button while turning on the unit.

If that works, you want to go through each piece one at a time. First w/ the work bowl, and notice there is a plastic rod w/ a spring at the bottom set into on side of the work bowl. Make sure that is lined up over the black button. Then in the cover, usually on the back of the feed tube, there is a lever within the clear plastic, that should line up over the rod in the work bowl. Finally, you must add the pusher/sleeve portion at the very last, or else it all won't engage right and it won't work. Just make sure the tabs on the large pusher are locked into the cover last, and it all engages so that the spring in the work bowl is depressed. The processor won't work until all the pieces are in the exact place and put on one at a time (I can't stress that enough because these processors are very exact when it comes to that, some kind of safety mechanism).

If all else fails, call customer service at 800-726-0190, they can walk you through those steps if I haven't been clear enough. :)

Hi, Sounds like something is wrong. Is this a gas or electric oven? Did you have to change settings from natural gas to lp?

    Gas oven smell

Have you checked the temperature with a hand held or stand alone thermometer? First thing I would do is get a cheap oven thermostat, set the oven to 200 and make sure the oven is not being controlled.

This smell, does it sour the flavor of whatever you are baking, broiling whatever?

Sounds to me the oven might be over temperature, if it checks out against another thermostat is there any breakin procedures in your manual or cd?

Check that out, next have you called the oem?

cALL EM AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING, MAYBE THEY HAVE A BAD COATING,

If that goes no where, get a mailing address, ,get a frozen pancake or waffle if it is sticking to the food, cook it, wrap it hot in plastic rap then aluminum foil and mail it to them.

Once they take a wiff of it you will get some relief,

I am concerned you might have some kind gas that could prove to be unhealthy, so get this dealt with, the three suggestions above should get you an answer.

    Will
