Hi, you don't say if it's presently in a PC or stand alone? If it's not in a PC, put into one as a secondary drive. Make sure the jumper is set to 'slave'.

The above link is information.
If you have the hard drive is installed in the computer, and the operating system has failed, try and boot into safe mode and retrieve data that way.
If this is not possible, use a linux live disk and see if you can retrieve data that way. For information about this, follow the next link;

All the above methods are free.

Change hdd bios settings toshiba satellite

The reconition code must have been wiped out, that can only happen if the ultility is agressive, It is far safer to erase the hard drive through more conventional methods, once you block any data from being retrieved so does the product identification. The only thing you can try is set bios factory default, "long shot at best"

Remove your hard drive, fit it to a caddy and plug the USB caddy into another computer and retreive the information to a good drive.
If the hard drive has physically crashed then there are companies out there that retreive data but at a high cost as it is very time consuming.

My latitude d600 want come on says my dst log has and error code:1000-0146

Unfortunatly this code (1000-0146) is the telling you that your hard drive has failed, it will be hard to retreive any data from the drive, to have it done proffesionally will cost as much as a new computer, If the laptop is still under warrenty you should be able to get a replacement. They may be able to retreive any data from the computer.

Can't retreive files

if the computer reads the hard drive and data but does not transfer it it may be a space issue otherwise if its reading nothing it may be a connection issue cause by lose wires or a faulty port ensure you have the drivers for the external installed and windows updated

At boot up my Hitachi Hard drive clicks once. Not shown in BIOS

I am assuming that this is the hard drive in the computer. Try a safe boot up to see if you can get to the hard drive. use the F8 key at startup for safe mode.

Presario C300 starts but then instantly shuts down

This could be a battery problem or problem of your charger. Check those first. Changing out the motherboard is a tedious job and one has to be familiar with the unit to do it.

USUALLY the hard drive data can be recovered.

To do that, purchase a USB external drive pod and put your drive in it and download info into another computer.

Hard Disk Crash

Actually if the hd is corrupted, you can try to go to safe mode or do a chkdsk and then fix boot otherwise you need to contact drivesavers for that.

Fried Motherboard

If the hard drive has completely crashed, it will not be possible to retreive the data from it. If it is a situation in which the boot sector has become damaged, it may be repairable. Yes, I would try a new hard drive before you go with the motherboard diagnosis. They may be completely correct, however, I did have a faulty hard drive that displayed the exact same symptoms you described. If the new drive works, you just need to see if someone can salvage the data off the old one. If it IS the motherboard, your data should still be safe. If it is NOT the hard drive, be aware - you will have spent money you will not be able to get back.

Hard drive crash

if your HD cannot be detected anymore..then there would be 90% chance that your data's cannot be retrieve. however, if it is still functional as a secondary drive but the partition is damage..try using FileScanvenger to retrieve the data.
