  • Hi, this is "normal looping when choosing to restore to "Factory Settings," you have to be very patient, and unfortunately, if the process wasn't completed entirely, you may need to start from scatch; "lets hope this is not the case, restart the computer, and let it do what its suppose to do "finish the restoring to "factory settings, be patient," and follow all the instructions carefully. "Rating the solution is appreciated, thanks; I hope all go well!"

If you see your HDD lights working and can tell that the PC is doing something such as spinning the drives, and such, try looking very closely at the screen from different angles and even with a light in hand. You may be able to see some action on the screen or even your desktop, eventually. If you can faintly see PC operations taking place on the laptop, then the issue is the backlight. This means a screen replacement. You can also plug an external monitor up to the unit for a test.

My toshiba laptop will boot when I power up but the screen stays black

Jeff, connect an external monitor for a diagnostic test.

Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the back of the laptop,
(RGB/Monitor connector,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector )

The external/VGA monitor can be a CRT type (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen that has a VGA cable.

Turn the external monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By default the display should show on the external monitor. If not press, and hold down on the Fn key, and tap the F5 key. (One of the Hot Key's)

If the display still does not show, hold down on the Fn key, and tap the F5 key again.
There are three display options;

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external monitor
3) External monitor ONLY

If graphics show on the external monitor, you have a problem in the Display Assembly, and/or the Video Cable.

If graphics do Not show on the external monitor, you have a problem with the graphics chipset on the motherboard.
(ATI Radeon 3100)

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-L450-L455/laptop-disassembly-1.htm

Video Cable
1) Could be the connections. The connection of the video cable TO the motherboard, and the other end of the video cable TO the back of the LCD screen. (In the Display Assembly)

2) Could be damage to the video cable. Check the sheath of the cable for obvious signs of damage. If so, the thin tiny wires inside may be damaged also.

Cable should be checked for continuity of each wire in the cable. (Ohm's with a multimeter)

Video Cable condition, and tightness of connections check out, it's on to the screen Inverter.

Primer:
An LCD screen does not produce light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.

The Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 Notebook PC, uses 1 single CCFL for a Backlight.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.

Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the Inverter.

The screen Inverter is a small rectangular circuit board, and is located behind the Display Bezel, an at the bottom of the LCD screen,

Example of screen Inverter,

Under the main Toshiba heading go down to the subheading -
Satellite A10. (A10 is in blue)
In this 'paragraph' go down to the third line, and scroll across to -
L450D, in blue.
Click on L450D.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name { L450D } it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.

Would appreciate it if you would post back in a Comment with your findings.

NO VGA DISPLAY TOSHIBA SATELLITE M300 FOR VISTA

Hi What precisely do you mean by VGA display, is your laptop not displaying anything on lcd screen,or its having problem giving display on an external monitor connected via a vga port.
if there is no display on the laptop LCD screen, then turn the laptop on and observe for beeps sounds and hard disk spinning sound if still no display is available plug the laptop to external monitor and again restart the laptop. if there is no display on the external screen and laptop is displaying well in LCD, Then most probably you need to press some keyboard combination on laptop keyboard eg: Fn + f4 , refer to your laptop manual also.

The monitor on my Toshiba P25-S5093 does not have any display of any kind; all black. I have display using external monitor.

Hi,
Does the display show anything before you enter windows? If yes, then press the key to transfer video back to your original screen once you enter windows. It should be the function key "Fn" + F5 - F8. looks for the icon which shows a monitor or says "CRT/LCD".
If it doesn't show anything before you enter windows I'm afraid your screen needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Toshiba a15-129 laptop--Will not turn on. Yellow

Your laptop is having a power problem. There was one Toshiba satellite pro that my friend had, it gave exactly the system fault as yours. And by the time we checked, it was a power problem.

The laptop had one IC that controls both the power and the entire board. If anything happens to that IC, it will affect the whole board.

I hope yours is different, because if it is the same, it will result you replacing the whole laptop mother board.

I would advice that you take your laptop your a qualified specialist, so that the fault will be made know and solution will follow.

I wish you the best.

LCD screen mostly dead

There are no lights to replace in an LCD. If the LCD is damaged in any way, it must be replaced. Sorry. Email me the model of your laptop. I may be able to find you a cheaper screen.
