If resetting BIOS via battery removal didn't work, their are a few software tools out there that claim to be able to read/write BIOS password protection. But otherwise you will need to replace the motherboard or the BIOS chip on the motherboard.

unplug the ac adapter then the main battery.unplug the rtc battery plug only.plug the ac adapter back in with the rtc battery unplugged, restart.Be sure to let the memory count down complete. Then push f1 to save changes. After you save the changes and restart plug the rtc battery back in.I just removed power on passwords on four HP nc6000s this way.All no longer have passwords.

I need to rest password in bios

Removing the RTC battery and leaving it uninstalled for 5 or more minutes causes all passwords and CMOS settings to be cleared. BIOS password can be removed by temporarily disconnecting/ removing the RTC/ CMOS (Coin-cell) battery from the motherboard.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board and it will reset the BIOS to its default setting and the password would be gone.
Please Refer to Page 29, 106 & 79 of the REPAIR MANUAL IBM T40 for Battery removal, keyboard removal and RTC battery removal instructions.
The Backup Battery (RTC, CMOS) is located under the keyboard. So you have to remove the keyboard to access the battery. The above Manual from IBM shows the exact method/ instructions and pictures for laptop dis-assembly for the purpose.
If you are comfortable with working inside such electronics, you can't do it yourself, or else you may seek help from local laptop service professional.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I forgot bios password! I tried to remove bios battery but it didn't work! hp nx8220

Removing the RTC battery will not do it.

Laptops these days are very secure. You need to call HP and prove ownership and they will give you a backdoor password.

How do i reset a cmos/bios pasword on a compaq presario 2100. i forgot and can not boot the computer compaq service no help

The power on password is a little harder to break in laptops than desktops and this tip may or may not help. Each computer manufacturer is different in how they set thier systems up. Disassemble the laptop down to the chassis where the RTC battery can be seen in its socket. Make sure that all power is removed from this device and remove the RTC battery. Let the motherboard sit without the battery in it for up to one hour. replace the RTC battery and reassemble the laptop. Do not put the main system battery in just yet, power on only with the AC adapter. Power the laptop up and if it asks for a password, just hit enter, if it still asks you for a password, type in "clear". If it still wants a password, then the only other option is to "short" the two contacts in the battery socket for the RTC battery, using a small wire to jump the positive and negative points in the socket, make sure nothing else is touched or you will Nuke your motherboard. With the battery contacts "shorted" power the motherboard up with the AC adapter, wait approx 1-2 minutes allowing the motherboard to post. Shut the board down, and follow the previos procedures for reassembly and powerup.

Forgot my power on password

Remove the battery and to the power cord.
Remove the two screws that secure the keyboard. After removing the keyboard, remove the battery “RTC” to stop providing energy to epprom BIOS. After the upgrade or downgrade, or any repair, leave the Laptop for 5 minutes, without any source of energy.
Then connect only the power cord without battery and without the battery “RTC” of the Bios.
then turn on the pc without the battery and press f10 change the admin password put the battery of the laptop again not the rtc battery then save changes and exit, reeboot with the win xp disk inside , change boot order and done i garantied it work install xp and then connect the rtc battery done. jajaja easy

Hp530 power on password prblem

The reason why your password is still re-curring after removing the CMOS battery is because when you were doing so, some of the cables supplying power to the Board were still plugged.
So before using the CMOS removing method, first make sure that you have disconnected ALL source of power supply cable from the Board, then remove the CMOS Battery for a few seconds, and re-insert it. It should work like that.

Hp nx 6110 a power-on-password

Hi, try this:
- unplug from mains
- remove laptop battery
- remove real-time clock (CMOS) battery.
- wait 5 minutes
- replace the RTC battery and then
plug in - without the laptop battery.
The laptop battery cannot be present
when you remove the RTC battery
and shouldn't be there when you power on.

Bios lock

Try this link

Easiest Method would be to follow these steps

1: Unplug Power Cord from Power Supply in Back
2: Open Case
3: Locate Round Battery on Motherboard
4: remove Round Battery
5: wait 5 Minutes
6: replace the battery
7: Close case and plug power back in.

This should solve your problem.

If not try the solution below

Clear cmos

Typically to clear the cmos there are 3 pins with a 2 pin jumper, near the battery.
Pin 1&2 clears the cmos and pin 2&3 is default, do not do this when the system is running or it will kill your motherboard.
