If your replacing the video care for this PC you must make sure the one your putting in it's place is compatable.

Otherwise you can easily do this with a phillips screwdriver

Just open up the side pannel by either unscrewing some screws along the edge of the back pannel where your connections go or pushing down some sort of button and pulling it apart. (most likely its taking out the screws)

After you remove the one side (usually the left side facing the from of the PC and right if your looking at it from behind) just lay it on its side and look towards the bottom of you tower.

You should see a card of some sort with maybe a fan or some large metal pieces on it snapped into the motherboard. It is also screwed down into part of the back pannel on the case (where your monitor plugs in to the back is usually where the card is at but in some cases the motherboard has a built in gpu as well so there is one by your USB ports and keyboard/mice ports, etc)

just remove that one screw, unsnap the back part of the card (on the end of it, it may have a plastic snap or it may not) and then try to gently pop it out of the card slot.

Replace the one you took out with a compatible card, install any software you have when you turn your system back on and VIOLA!! your done :D

Need a new video card, what kind will it take?

The D400-A PCs's were unfortunately made before the PCIe specs became standard. Almost none of the newer video cards will work, but I was lucky enough to find an nVidia GeForce 9400GT 1GB card that fits standard PCI. Be careful shopping for one online, make sure the product details state that it is the PCI version of the card, not the PCIe version.

Where is the video card on this computer How do I

Your desktop PC has integrated video card, Intel 845GV. What you can do is buy a PCI Video Card and just add to the PCI slot in on your motherboard. You need to open your computer and just insert it in a slot. Slots are either 3 or 4 slots in the back of the computer down to the bottom when the computer is in a normal position

hope this helps!

I can't change the resolution, after reinstalling windows xp sp3.

You are using the default video driver.
You need to install the video driver for your video adapter.
If you monitor plugs into the motherboard go to the motherboard manufacturer's website.
If it plugs into a separate card that is plugged into the motherboard then you need to go to the card manufacturer's website. ATI and Nvidia are the most popular manufacturers.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Installed new video card. turned off integrated video. new card malfuntioned.took out new card and now can't turn integrated video back on.

try a Bios reset, this is done by removing the Coin type battery from the mainboard, with the mains unplugged, this should force the motherboard to revert to its factory settings, (IE using the on board video).

hope this helps

Try reseating the RAM. If you have multiple sticks, take them all out and add one back. If you have video again, add them back one at a time until it fails. If you don't have video, take that stick back out and put in another.

PCI Video Card

The Specifications to your system states that you have Intel Extreme Graphics onboard. Below is a link where you can find manuals and drivers for that card.
