Some laptops have a switch in front next to the wireless light or on the side.

Some laptops use an F key (my toshiba is F8) so to turn on the wireless I would have to turn the switch on in front and then "toggle" the Wireless on by pressing the FN and the F8 keys.

Above the NumLock, there is a button with an icon of a satellite dish on it. Looks more like a light than a button, but press it anyway, it will start blinking when wireless is on.

Acer is notoriously bad. The 6530 has a problem connecting to wireless, even when "Wireless Lan" is enabled. You have to turn wireless on and ff about 15 times. Eventually it will find your network

Wireless card Not found

Where is you get that message or indication from?

Is the wireless listed as a device in the device manager?

Did you turn the wireless switch on?

Download and reinstall your wireless drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Toshiba Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Network drivers.

Make sure the wireless switch is turned on.

Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look on both sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on.

Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can toggle the wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a tower with the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will display Wireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.

Still not working?

If you still have problems then turn the laptop off, remove the power cord, remove the battery, then remove the cover that houses the wireless card on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the antennas (2 cables) from the wireless card (remember how they go so you can put them back later), then remove the wireless card from the slot ( it might be secured by one or two screws you have to remove). After about 30 seconds put it all back together and reboot. Sometimes reseating the wireless card will make it work.

Wireless network connection ,says that no wireless network were found in range

Look on your function keys there could be a radio tower symbol. If you have one press and hold the FN button ( left side on the bottom of keyboard ) and then press the button with the tower on it that should turn on / off your wireless. you may also have a switch on the sides or front which maybe turned off also check for that.

Wireless capability Switch is off on dell vostro 1400.Is there another way to turn on switch.

There are three ways to toggle the wireless switch on/off, 1st, Fn + wireless button (F2 or F5), 2nd, the wireless switch on the side of the laptop, 3rd, it can be enabled or disabled under BIOS setup (Tap F2 when turned on the laptop).

Can't get connected to wireless mst laptop

Here's the checklist:
  1. Make sure the wireless transceiver is turned on. Almost all laptops have a switch that lets you turn it off when not in use to conserve battery energy. The switch is usually on the front edge of the computer.
  2. Check the router protocols (for steps 2, 3, and 4, connect to the router's web page using a computer connected to the router with a network cable). If, for example, the router is using 802.11n only, and your laptop has an older wireless card (802.11b or 802.11g), they won't talk to each other. In that case, you would want to set the router to mixed protocol mode.
  3. Check the router security settings, and make sure your laptop's settings match. They should be using the same encryption (TKIP or AES), authentication type (WEP, WPA, WPA2 - WPA2 is preferred) and wireless security key/password. The laptop computer's settings are found by right-clicking the Wireless Network icon in the System Tray and selecting Properties.
  4. If the router has a limited client list, make sure the MAC address for your wireless card is properly entered on the list. If the wireless card was factory installed, the MAC address should be on a sticker on the bottom of the computer.
  5. Consider range limiting factors. If the router or laptop is located too near ductwork, metal appliances or even metal furniture framing, this could create blind spots in the broadcast patterns. Sometimes moving a few inches can make a significant difference. You can check this by right-clicking the wireless network icon in the System Tray and selecting View Available Wireless Networks. A list of networks in the neighborhood (including yours) should show the relative signal strength of each router at your location. Note that the strength of weaker signals is often highly variable - it may be different each time you refresh the view.
I think I covered everything other than hardware problems. Sometimes you can get everything matched, but the router and laptop still won't talk until you shutdown and restart both (turn the router back on first). I had a Windows Vista unit with this issue when Vista first came out - after that it never again had a connection problem with that router as far as I know.

IBM Thinkpad laptop Wireless connection not working laptop is asking to switch on wireless switch- "Where is it?"

Verify that the radio is enabled.
It is possible to disable the transmitter of the wireless card without Device Manager showing any problems.
Note: Follow the instructions provided to enable wireless card.
  • Most wireless cards will put an icon in the system tray (the line of icons in the lower right corner of your screen). Right click this icon and it may have a menu option to enable/turn on the wireless radio.
  • Some systems come with a Wireless Radio switch to disable the wireless radios. The wireless radio switch is usually located on the front side of the machine. If you are having difficulties with wireless connections, make sure the Wireless Radio switch is set in the On position.

Wireless connection

Hi Kazmerr

Re: Dell Latitude d600

Assuming you already turned your wireless, your distance should be in range fom your router. Turn off and on the switch  or you can press Fn+F2 to start your wireless connection. If thats a no go check your wireless client  and make sure no other wireless client is installed ie. your ISP wireless connection manager.

Other work around for this is : make sure you have enabled or started your wireless client for windows by ff the steps below :

Win XP Sp2: start > control panel  classic view> administrative tools > services > then look for Wireless Zero Configuration and right click it and choose start or restart . After doing this you may check or view your available wireless network again.IF no go >

For winXP or VIsta ONLY
Go to start > control panel   { classic view } > system > device manager > Look for network adapter {+} sign > look for 802.11g wireless / or anything that says 'wireless' and make sure that theres no yellow question or excamation mark on it and IF none right click it and choose remove/uninstall> then restart PC > and try to view avaialable wireless again by ff the steps above.

{ tthis will refresh your wireless network hardware and software}

Note: for yellow exclamation marks or questions marks on your wireless adapter you MUST reinstall your DEll Wireless adapter. using you DELL System Recovery Disk.

In most instance it has somthing to do with your wireless switch on your laptop. With all possible steps porvided above doesnt woprk pls notify me. Thanks and good luck.
