I don't know how to get my pictures from my Nikon COOLPIX S570 onto my computer

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa or Nikon Transfer.

Can I download pictures from internal memory directly to my computer for a NIkon coolpix S570 camera? The memory card I was using went bad and the camera displays "This card cannot be used"

You can connect the camera to the computer with the USB port. If there's no memory card in the camera, the computer should see the pictures in the internal memory.

Alternatively, you can get a new memory card (you're going to need one, right?) and copy the pictures from the internal memory to the card, then put the card into a card reader and transfer the pictures taht way.

My nikon won't transfer new pictures. also, when i turn it on, every 1 out of 3 times the lens won't open

try transferring the pictures using a card reader only. the lens issue may get worse as the mechanical gears inside get worn out.
