I bought a Hampton Bay ceiling fan and I have

Hi ,, the usual wiring for the fan / light is that in the ceiling the white wires connect together , the black house wire connects to the black fan wire, the red house wire connects to the other fan wire, usually blue or black with a blue stripe. If this does not resolve the issue, then check the wall switches and see that there is a power wire to each switch and that there is a red wire from the fan on one switch and the black wire from the fan on the other switch ..

Broke a light in my ceiling fan its a hampton Bay Portland II model number 762 425

You mean the base remains and the glass broke off? After you turn off the power (you might consider turning off the breaker) Take a wire stripper, the type that has only one place to strip wire, the small stripper. Completely reverse the tool so that when you pull the handles the pointed end opens up. Stick this into the broken socket, use the handles to spread the pointed ends inside the socket and unscrew.

3-speed switch replaced with hampton bay switch. Only low speed works.

The cause to the problem was replacing a HUNTER fan switch with a Hampton Bay switch. Before removing the old switch, I noted and marked the color and position of the 4 wires. I then duplicated the connections to the new switch.

But the wire positions of Hampton Bay vs Hunter are not identical, therefore 2 wires
were crossed.

The correct way is to note the color of the wires with the corresponding NUMBER
marked on the switches, then duplicate this on the new one.

Replacing fan switch

There is no one answer to this problem since Hampton Bay fans are made by several different manufacturers. Having just been through this problem, may I offer what I think is the fastest and easiest way for a fix. I started with a call to Hampton Bay at
(800) 749-3267 and was told to call (877) 527-0313, which was a Home Depot contact. The very pleasant women sent me to
1-979-553-3260. This last number is for an outfit in Texas, Gulf Coast Fans. They listened to problem and suggested that I send the broken switch to them, which I did, cost less than $2.00.
Two days later they called and suggested I order a switch from them and gave me the switch number. I ordered the next day and received replacement in two days. This worked very well. Only problem is that the cost from Gulf Coast is a bit high. After trying all combinations myself before contacting these guys and buying a switch from Home Depot which did not work, I was willing to pay a bit more. Good luck
Jim F.
