Question about Fisher and Paykel DD605HSS 23 in. Built-in Dishwasher

Dishwasher makes knocking sound during rinse cycle. Unit is empty with no obstructions. Even switch the spray rotor from bottom to top drawer. Did not fix knocking sound. Top drawer makes the sound. The bottom drawer is silent. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Pat

    Thanks Silverdragon,

My Fisher is DD603 model. I think the sound is the inlet valve knocking like you indicated because it happens during a switch in clean/rinse cycle, and not all the time. Is there a parts illustration for my model?

Thanks for the previous fast help and response.

    Pat

Have not fixed the problem yet, but leads to the problem were great.

Knocking sound turned out to be the inlet valve. Thanks silverdragon.

Top link is your service manual, below that is a great DIY website. below that is a fantastic troubleshooting manual for all dishwashers... Please download all links Plus some tips below....

  1. Check the motor for vibration. Wiggle the sprayer arm and feel for excessive play. If so, tighten the mounting bolts.
  2. When the bearings in a motor start to wear, they can become quite loud when the motor is running. Sometimes the seal separating the motor from the water can wear out, allowing water to flush the grease on the bearings away. Replace motor.
  3. When an inlet valve is wearing out there is too much play in it, causing it to vibrate excessively when water is flowing thru. You would hear a knocking sound. Sometimes it can also be the "Balance Weight" from the drum, this is used to balance the drum, and sometimes one end comes loose, or even comes off completely, please use your service manual, and I am sure you will be able to track it down, and hopefully fix it.

How do I check the drain hose?

If it is a double drawer dishwasher then there are two hoses one from top drawer and the other from lower drawer. They combine under the kitchen sink using a U adapter. Need to find which one is choked (assuming kitchen drain is ok and you have no inskinerator being used). Disconnect the U adapter from kitchen drain and empty tie to an empty bucket. Run each drawer and see which one is causing the block. (just a rinse cycle should be ok).

Very Loud Noise when dishwasher starts

It is likely the sound is coming from the rinse aid dispenser solenoid. (I am assuming you do not have a water softener unit on your dishwasher). Try to run the drawer on a Rinse cycle and see if the noise is still coming.

F2 code on Fisher Paykel dishwasher

The problem is linked to rotor operation during discharge cycle. By replacing the rotor with bottom will only address part of the problem. There is very likely some obstruction in the pump cavity. This is the small channel connecting the drain sump and the pump cavity. Grab a thin but rigid wire and clear this channel. Usually a bone chip or some seed.
Also confirm if the top rotor worked ok when you moved it to the bottom drawer.

Washing machine knocks and dims lights only during rinse cycle

Possible that the bearings are a suspect, if the machine seems to wobble around. Also if the load is high, does the noise go higher, if so check the suspension, check the mounting and the counter weights.
Please check this link: Wobbling machine

Bottom dishwasher of fisher and paykel wont drain

Check the filter sump is clear and there are no blockages in the rotor cavity. If you hear the rotor noise when it is in drain cycle then blockage is inside the rotor or filter sump cavity. Assuming the top drawer is working ok, the drain hose at kitchen end might be ok. The drain hose within the drawer could also be an issue. Try to run the dishwasher with a Finish dishwasher cleaning kit (from super market) after following the instructions on the kit. First empty dishwasher with a small cup.
If the rotor is silent during drain cycle then you have a bigger problem - faulty rotor circuit.

Loud squeeling sound during wash cycle, and sanitary rinse

If you’re hearing a fast knocking sound, then it is your motor going bad. This will result in an LE code and the unit will no longer work as this gets worse.
You can get a replacement sump assembly that has the motor and all new sensors to resolve this issue.
Good Luck.

I have a Fisher/Paykel dual drawer dishwasher and the top drawer now makes a loud grinding noise - appears to be coming from the front of the unit. Any thoughts? Any home-based solutions?

Remove dish rack, spray arm, remove filters, remove the rotor (under the spray arm) Check if the rotor itself is making any sound or not rotating freely when you turn the impeller on the top. Replace if needed, otherwise - carefully check for debris.

Try swapping the motor rotors between the two drawers and see if the fault changes drawers, also check for anything stuck under the motors or and damage to the plastic of them. cheers

Loud Knocking/Ticking Sound During Cycle

have you lowered the top basket into the lower position? if so the spray arm will knock the cutlery /plates. it sounds as though it is a spray arm problem. remove them and put it in wash to see if the noise goes. if not there may be an obstruction in the wash pump, this is a stripdown job then.
