Question about NetGear MR814 Wireless Router

Security key for netgear

I am trying to set up a new laptop and do not remember the security key for my netgear which was set a 3-4 years ago. Is there a way to find out what it is. I was told I could possibly get it by going to www.routerlogin.net and using admin and password, but when I get to that website there is nothing that asks me for that. The netgear is plugged into my computer even though my desk computer is not wireless.

Wire in a cable with the router from ur laptop/desktop. Check the default gateway of the connection. Then put the ip address in the explorer window and try to log in to the router with the username and password. If you remember the credentials then login and under security settings or wireless security you will see the password or wpa key. But if u forget the credentials then u have to reset the router and reconfigure the wifi router again with a new password.

I purchased a new laptop and when trying to set up the netgear it ask for the security code, where is that at?

Did you have the netgear before you bought the new laptop?
If so all you need is the wireless key - which you should have written down.
There is no need to set up the netgear again as it is already doing its job. You set up the computer to talk to the netgear.

Cannot get wireless connection through router

Hi MistiShay,

You did mention that it was working fine for several weeks suddenly your wireless computers stopped functioning and your getting a message that the security key in incorrect. This only means that its either your entering the wrong encryption key or someone changed the previous security key to something else. By the way what type of wireless security did you configured on the router initially was it WEP or WPA, if its WEP(64 or 128 bit) and your using a bulit-in wireless adapter on your laptop you need the default WEP key because the passphrase only works with a Netgear WLAN Utility.

Know if your having difficulties accessing the setup page of the router you may need to check on your browser settings, turn off the pop up blocker and firewall temporarily, also try another computer. Now if all fails you may need to press that reset button on your router and set it up again.

You are looking for the WEP key that is configured on your router. Use your PC that's connected via ethernet, go to the config web page for the router and somewhere on the wireless security settings you will find the WEP key that was configured for your wireless network.
