Question about GE Security Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System

SIMON 3 panel acknowledge code?

What exactly is the SIMON 3 panel expecting as a "return code" when it "calls" the main alarm phone number? I've canceled my monitoring plan and successfully re-programmed the "Primary Phone" (Option 4) to my cell number, but when I test activated the alarm, I would get a flurry of repeated calls over and over.. with silence on the line.. and nothing to "push" or "acknowledge" so I could not reset the alarm. Had to wait for about 10 calls until the panel just said "Phone Communications Failure". I imagine it's awaiting some sort of computer based response... barring that, I erased the number from Primary, and instead placed it in the PAGER # (Option 43) and that worked great, I could actually press POUND and I was "told" it reset, but it would still apparently try to connect via option 4 and fail. Anybody out there know what the panel is expecting as a response? Or at least, how to tell it to stop trying to use PRIMARY number when it's not even there? Many thanks in advance... Steve

Check and make sure they did not put a secondary number in Option 5. also I would delete the account# in Option 7.

Get the front cover open by pushing the tab at the top of the panel down while pulling on it. When the cover is down enter the 4 digit master code using the red numbered keys. On the left you will fine a small menu that list different "options". You want to turn "option 1 off." To turn off option 1: Hit the delete key then the option button one time for option one finally push the bigger button in the left bottom corner. I think it's labeled enter or something to that effect. You can listen to the prompting of the panel to know exactly which one to push. After that close the front flap and no more beeping will happen. You will still get the siren in the event of an alarm but trouble conditions and entry exit beeps will be no more. I hope that helps!

How do I change the phone number that my GE Simon Security System calls when the alarm is triggered?

Open the front cover, enter the installer code and "add" the new phone number in "Option 4" as the Primary phone number. "Option 5" is the secondary phone number location on the Simon 3.

I can get the cell back up to work on my simon 3

The vell module is not like a cell phone. It is specifically set up to go to the alarm.com network. You need to have an alarm company involved. Alarm.com can send you e-mail or tect messages if you have a smartphone, but you are going to be about $25-$30 per month to get that service.

Simon 2 wont call a phone

I found this answer on the web. Should to work, I didn't test it. You need an RJ31X jack, that is where it is trying to dial out. The device shorts out the house line, and resets the line and automatically dials out on a clear line through the RJ31X (your six prong plug line. You can not use a CAT 5 plug or pass through, your need the shorting bar. There are screw terminals on the RJ31X, pins 4 & 5, is what you use with red and green wire of the phone wire. Plug in your six wire plug into the RJ31X and your panel. You should discover your phone dials out to your cell number.

There you have it, and now you know why it is not dialing you.

That smaller jack is for your house phones, not Ma Bell.

Now if you look at my Bio, you will discover I am a Power Quality Engineer specializing in surge suppression and lightning protection for burglar alarms, Fire Alarms, CCTV, and Gate Access. You may think I am trying to sell something, and yes I am, but very little profit if at all. I normally sell to dealers in volume. I make the RJ31XDSL Pacifier (or three stage surge suppression). $55.00 each and I will discount it to $35.00 if you choose to buy one. I also recommend that you use a PMM117 Power monitor/surge suppression plug device for your power. This will protect your burg panel from being damaged from under/over voltage plus impulses and surges. This device will cost $77.00, but I can discount it to $39.00 each. Both units are a good investment with your new tiny computer you installed called a burglar alarm. I understand not much respect by most end users for devices like this, but the first lightning strike will wish you had.

Want to program telephone number in GE Simon 3 system

Hi,
You need to get the ''installer code'' from your alarm company in order to go into the programming of your system and do the change...and of course the programming manual, please be advised hat if you make any change to your system and something goes wrong your alarm company could charge you in order to fix the problem. Legally, IF you bought the system, you are entitled to get the installer code, the alarm company can't even think to argue about that!.

Thanks,

Yes at the top of the unit there is a tab or a slot for the tab version press tab with thumb then swing cover down. For the version with the slot insert screwdriver press up and then swing cover down. The unit has a 9 volt plug in transformer that should be near by unplug it as well as disconnecting battery. Using DTIM with digital phone service

It turns out that because Comcast uses VoIP, the Simon can't use it to call in reports. I ended up having to switch monitoring companies to one that specifically uses internet monitoring. The solution was to buy/install a wireless g bridge into the phone output on the alarm panel, and then connect it (wirelessly) to my home network. No major problems since then.
