Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore f/l washer, model no. 417.431.42200, that will fill but doesn't spin; it just hums. It will drain if I move the knob to final spin, but no movement. The belt is still intact . I replaced the controller board and motor same result ready to throw the bleeping thing out the window. Oh yea, cleaned out the pump as someone suggested that didn't do it either. WTF.

With belt off the drum and motor spin freely. As I stated in my email replaced the controller board and motor with same result. Bought new controller board, motor was used but came from reputable source.

This washer worked great, one night it started banging. I shut it off and inspected inside found both shocks

broken. Replaced them and now the drum wont spin. Everything else works perfect it fills, drains just wont start wash cycle or spin. Extremely frustrating. It's only six years old. From what I've read the controller board

is what provides voltage to the motor. Door lock light comes on and door is locked I don't know what else to try except a sledge hammer.

Is there a common issue with this model not spinning or is it always different.

  • lansult May 05, 2010

Found this on your site but no one has responded. This is exactly what I experienced except I haven't tested voltages.

Kenmore 41743142200 both shocks broke and now it won't start a spin cycle. Moto won't spin or even start. How do you determine is the speed control board or the motor is the problem. No voltage on pin 5 & 6 should be 120V.

Found the following on another site.

2003 Sears Kenmore Front Load Washer(Frigidaire Built)(Model#41743042200): Timer Stalls in the wash cycle before the rinse cycle, There is a Service Flash on this issue. The Control Board will need to be replaced, Part#134306000. This Control Board Assembly is under a 2 yr. part only warranty

Open the washer door and turn the drum to check if is it turning freely and verify any restriction. Remove the drive belt, if the drum is not turning freely, then turn the drum and motor pulleys individually to determine where the restriction is coming from. The drum bearing is worn if the drum pulley still doesn't turn freely. The drum bearing is molded to the rear outer tub assembly, part number 131462800, and requires the complete replacement if the bearing is worn. Replace the drive motor, part number 134869400, if it is where the restriction coming from. The motor failure can be verified furthermore by running a cycle with the belt removed and observe how the motor behaves.

Please try running the washer with the drive belt removed and observe how the motor behaves. It is mentioned that the motor just hums which means it receives power but just does not run.

It is stated in the first post that the motor just hums which indicates it has power. Please try running the washer with the drive belt removed and observe
    how the motor behaves.

If it still hums and does not run, try to give the motor pulley a spin by hand and check if the rotor is stuck or not. Compare it when the motor pulley is turned by hand when it is off.

Washer hums but will not fill or start/ spin has water pressure and tub seems to move freely the model #on tag LTF2140ES0

If it doesn't fill it won't start any other cycle unless you move it ahead yourself. If it hums I am thinking it is trying to fill. Sounds like the valve is turning on to let water in but it is not getting through. My washer has a screen where the hoses go on and sometimes the screen becomes plugging with scale. If that is ok then the solenoid must be coming on but the valve is stuck. Does neither hot or cold settings work? Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

F/L Washing machine doesn't spin

Normal 0 First drop the lower front panel and remove the pump so you can check the hose leading to the drainpump for debris, coins, etc.

Lower front panel has two? screws holding it in place.

Be prepared for water on floor... use shop vac or have several towels ready for water. Recommend putting at least one towel undermachine before removing pump.

Clamps that hold hose to pump can be a challenger to removeand replace. Consider replacing stockclamps with screw clamps.

This is a great fix.... did it last night.. Found coins, screws, etc. in pump. Once I cleaned out the hose area leading to the pump the spin cycleworked fine.

Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!
