Hi!
I believe your waste ink pad counter registers that it is already full.
You may reset this counter by using the SSC Service Utility for Epson.
You may download it here:http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Red Ink Light is Staying on

You need to change your ink.

If changing the ink doesn't work for you, there is always a work around.

Go to this link and download the 'SSC Service Utility'.

After installing SSC, you can reset your ink status from your pc and you should be good to go!

Green light out both red lights flashing alternately

If the lights are flashing alternately then this is the Service Maintenance request by the printer. Usually this is related to the ink pads. You will need to change the ink pads and use a SSC utility.

All lights are blinking, nothing is jammed. I also get "Parts are at the end of their service life" I already downloaded the ssc utlility and reset the counters, no change. Please help!

I reset the ink pad counter with the ssc utility, and that didn't work. Then I downloaded Epson's own reset utility directly from Epson, and reset the counter with that. Problem solved!

Stopped printing both ink and paper red light

Depending on the way the lights are flashing you could be able to fix this reasonably easily.

If the lights are flashing at high speed together (ie: at the same time) then it's a fatal error and the chances are you have some kind of problem such as:
  • paper jamming up the works
  • loose wiring
  • the cleaning station sometimes pops up out of position and stops the printhead getting back into the parked position. If this is the cause you have to push the white wiper plastic down and to the right before allowing it back up and into the mated position with the parking pad. Takes a little work but it's easy enough.

Problem #2 is the waste pads and that's indicated by the flashing lights alternating rather than together.

If it's this then rather than reinvent the wheel (I've posted about this soooo many times now) here's a helpful little guide here:
http://www.octoink.co.uk/store/pages/Epson-C86.html (the C86 is the same as the C88 in terms of the waste pump/tubing design)

Resetting the waste ink counter requires the SSC utility from ssclg.com or a suitable adjustment utility which can be found for download if you search hard...

Hope that lot helps but if you get stuck, post again and I'll do what I can.

Cheers,

Martin

Green and red light flashing

SSC Service Utility allows you to do many things to your Epson printer, Work directly with CSIC in Epson Stylus printers cartridges, Freeze internal ink counters, Reset internal ink counters even with empty cartridges, Separate cleaning of color and black heads for all Epson inkjet printers, powerful cleaning mode, Hot swapping of cartridges supported, Resetting of protection counter (even then it is already full), More then 60 different Epson printers supported This allows many people with high printing demands to save money (program works with both black and color cartridges).

2 red lites blinking no epson c88 printer

If both lights are flashing, it may mean the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. You can check this and restore your printer to a working condition immediately by using the SSC utility - download from:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom right corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type, then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the sytem tray and choose Protection Counter. You should see that the current count is above the limit; then choose reset to set it to zero. You will need to fib about having changed the waste ink pads! Turn the printer off then back on again. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help. It is a pretty simple job once someone explains how to get the case apart!

If none of this stops the two red lights flashing, you will need to have a technician check your printer - it may well mean the main board has failed.

If this solution helps you, please rate it; if it doesn't, please provide further information by posting a new comment.

I have the same problem. I put a bottle at the back of the printer and connect to the exhaust ink with elastic pipe. It's to replace the function of ink pads. So I don't worry that the waste ink will damage the printer circuit board. I use SSC Utility too.
