This is probably a shorted high voltage rectifier diode. See this link:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

Microwave runs but doesn't heat.

The sound you heard was an Arc from the magnetron which provides the microwaves for heating, this means the magnetron has developed a short which unfortunately means you are now in the market for a new microwave as the cost to repair is not viable due to the decrease in replacement microwave cost over the last few years.

Loud buzzing noise, lights going off and on and slight smell in microwave

By your description it is the magnetron that has become defective, "heats food" cheaper to replace the unit.

My sharp R-1492 microwave was running and popped and now it wont heat.

It sounds like the magnetron has failed, but there two other parts of concern, the high voltage capacitor and diode can be a factor, they work together to heat the food. Parts and labor can be high, depending on the nature of repair.

A loud snap noise. seems to run but doesn't heat up

If it does not heat, then the problem is the magnetron circuit has failed. Would recommend that you have a qualified service person throubleshoot/repair it. One note, if the magnetron itself has failed, then buy yourself a new oven, since the parts cost is almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

Microwave made a loud pop, won't heat, sounds like it's only on half power, makes a low intermittent hum

This is almost certainly a blown high voltage diode.

Please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

No Heat

This is probably due to a bad door switch, most likely the top one. The microwave got hot because the cooling fan was not running. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://www3.sears.com/
