Long answer: the V stands for Verizon, which uses CDMA technology not GSM and more specifically, they don't use SIM chips, instead using Electronic Serial Numbers (ESN) you can still have multiple phones, but you have to call them or go onto your website to change between the phones.
Throw it against a wall.
Haha just joking. Not sure, sounds like you should take it to get it looked at, something must be out of place in, like scooted too far up so when you press up it reads as down and down it reads as nothing. So just get it looked at is my suggestion, they can always fix it. Sorry, hope this helped.
Not sure how to change the number of time it rings but to change your voice message call yourself, put in your pass when it tells you to then press 4. Now press 3. Now press 1. To have a standard greeting with your number press 1, to have one with your name press 2, and to make your own press 3. Hope this helped.
if your dialling from your phonebook check to see if the numbers are entered correctly.
if it does this when you manualy dial the number on your phone then check your wifes phone for diversions.
maybe it is directly diverting to the home phone
