Hi I followed the advice of Welcome Jee - for my Sony dcr-hc21 He was right on the money - the ribbon described was broken. However after putting in a new one and getting it back together, i recieved the error message E61:11. Any ideas what could be causing this error? The display works now - lights up ect..., however - i can not see any picture thru it.

Hi again,
E:61:11 shows that flexible wire of lens assembly is not inserted in camera main board connector properly.
There are two flexible wires from lens assembly in this camcorder, just check them and make sure both are plugged in main board connectors correctly.
This will solve your problem.
