Question about IBM ThinkCentre M51 PC Desktop

2 Answers

I have an IBM ThinkCentre m51, no os installed and it has the wrong BIOS. It boots up but keyboard & mouse are dead so it seems like I cannot flash the bios, check it or install anything.

This is a friend's computer, probably around 2005, and I undertook, with a mistaken impression, that I could "fix" it. I have no idea what the bios is but I downloaded a "flash bios" for a M51 IBM. However, I cannot even use the keyboard to designate the "1" for English, no it will not give me a keyboard or mouse or Floppy drive. I can install MS-DOS with the CD/R but still no keyboard or mouse.
Now, when I take MS-DOS off & insert the WINXP home setup disk in, it tells me it is not a system disk.
Also, I can use Acronis partition disk ... and the keyboard and mouse work. This is a ISO disk, So I tried a ISO of the BIOS ... no luck.

Update: I unplugged the battery, left it out a while, computer booted up, I was able to get into BIOS.

MODEL: 81432BU; Boot Block REV level: 2B42A; Bios Date: 04/05/05; Flash: 2BKT42AUS but that still does not tell BIOS unless it is the FLASH # ... and it tells me non-system disk when WINXP setup is in the CDR/RW drive.

Try removing system battery on MB for about a minute and reinstall. Some units have a jumper pin for reset on MB also. If that does not help, your MB may be bad.

Are you absolutely positive you have the mouse and keyboard plugged into the correct PS/2 ports. One is usually green & and other purple. Windows XP Home disk should boot up unless there is no CDRom showing in the boot bios setup. Normally you can get there by holding down the delete key on boot up.

The only other thing I can think of since it sees your CD but says it is not bootable is that it's scratched or something or your optical drive may be bad. You would have to see if the CD boots in another computer to validate it.

I enabled Legacy free on bios and that disabled PS/2 Port mouse and keybord so that I Can't have access to my BIOS to reconfigure it.Please, help me.

you might try resetting the cmos
then you might try using a usb keyboard. I use a usb wireless keyboard with a touchpad and it does the job. Good luck. After you clear the cmos and then turn it back on it should start re-decting the hardware.

IBM ThinkCentre M51 does no boots

different pc has different bios beeps depends on the bios manufacturer, but in your situation it is most likely you have problem with your video device. is it connected in video card or directly plug in the built in video port of the pc? if its connected in video card, remove video card temporarily then connect it to built in video ports, or vice versa, if your in built in video port you can try testing it with video card in pcie slot.

IBM M51 ThinkCentre doesn t recognize 4gig installed memory

You can confirm this in the BIOS and i'm sure it will show 4GIG. Your Operating system maybe a 32 BIT OS, hence it will only show about 3... GIG. It's a limitation for a 32 BIT OS.
