I have a Xerox model 5305 copier and the copy pages come out all black. I've cleaned the copy drum and replaced the toner cartridge but that doesn't solve the problem. I don't want to replace the copy cartridge unless I know that that will solve the problem.

Re: Black pages when printing
Are the lamps comming on, and on brightly? They may need replaced.
You may also have a bad ground contact to your drum cartridge.
Remove the cartridge and clean the contacts. The ground contact may also be worn out.
Those are the 2 most common problem with black copies on that machine

Mostly black lines prints due to problem in the Black toner cartridge. remove the Black toner out and inspect the toner drum, whether are their any black patch on the toner drum. If it so there's a problem in the black toner. Replace a new black toner and check.
Hi you have not said the toner type you replaced with though that will give not completely black copy. The problem may have been the drum unit installation. Make sure the charge unit over the drum service is present ie the one with a mesh wire like grid. If present, clean it or wipe with a soft clean and dry cloth. Clean the saw-tooth like metal plate inside that unit by slow blowing and make sure no toner particles are there. Finally screw the unit properly on the drum unit and your problem is solved.
This printer is designed to print up to 50 000 pages trough its life. After that the transfer belt and the drum have to be replaced but the price is more than a new printer. So first check the counter (press the button and it will print it) The cheap toner has entered in the black developing module where it mixed with the remained old original toner. They differ and tend to curdle. This is why printouts are poor after installing the new original toner. Try to print 20-50 black pages to take the curdled mix out. The developing module is part of the drum unit. It is hard to take apart and clean but not impossible. Buying a new drum unit is the last step, even after getting a new printer.
Hello sir; When you make copy is through by ADF? make another copy leave on the glass, compare both, is that same with the line then you have to replace drum blade, if first one with the line and second one without the line, then you need to clean a narrow strip glass on left hand side of the plateform.

Did you clean the lens and the mirror under the lens cover? If so, There is a VR behind the front cover of most small Xerox machines. One VR makes the image darker/lighter and one VR changes the lead edge registration.
sounds like faulty drum cleaning blade, which is usually contained in the replacement drum module.I would be inclined to take the drum unit back where you got it (unless you replaced it with a second-hand one) 99% certain the problem is contained in that module
