Question about HP LaserJet 2840 Printer

REPLACE SUPPLIES OUR OFFICE OWNS THIS HP LASER 2840. YESTERDAY IT SAID REPLACE BLACK CARTRIDGE. AFTER DOING SO SAID AND STILL SAYS TO "INSTALL SUPPLIES" ON THE TOP LINE AND RIGHT BELOW IT IT GIVES SHOWS "|?| |?| |?| |?|" WHAT SUPPLIES IS IT TALKING ABOUT? WE NEVER USE COLOR EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE INSTALLED... ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    replace supplies shows on screen with 5 sets of hash marks underneth the first set of hash marks from left is black all the way to the top next 2 have 1 line of black at bottom next 2 are empty.will not print copy.

    My machine says 'Replace supplies" even though it has new cartridges (I only print in Black & whit). I have looked up in the web and others appear to have the same problem. I have attempted all the solutions provided but none seem to work. My printer has the following display

    [_] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] only the first bar has a black line. My black cartridge is new.

    The one solution that had some merit but was for another model is to somehow to overide the 2840 so that the cartridge prints to the end.



    It appears to be a common problem that Hp does not want to reslove. If I cant resolve it I will throw it out and go back to brother laser printers

    The cartridge carousel is out of alignment. I just can't figure out how to Re-align it. I have a call in to a technician.

    This is a huge problem. I have just replaced the cartridge and yet the HP 2840 shows the same error messages that others have noted here. I took the steps of pulling out the cartridges, powering down, replacing the cartridges, and recalibrating and the "Replace black cartridge" error message showed up again. So it wouln't recalibrate.

    Any other ideas?

    My HP2840 has the same error message(replace supply using black only}

    it will not print but will copy in black only. After replacing black toner the printer went into calibration and clean mode after finshing the same error message appeared .I have tried the solution listed below but it did not help

    Printer was low on color, using black only. We continued using the black only until yesterday it says "Replace Supplies". I replaced all the cartridges and the imagaing drum, couldn't find anything else to replace. Then I restarted. No luck. Then pulled all cords and cartridges out, replaced, turned back on, still the same message. Also did a restore, factory reset. Still says REPLACE SUPPLIES. WHAT SUPPLIES???

    I replace the drum and the black ink. Now it says replace supplies. Use black ink only

    This is so annoying. One of my users printers has just come up with the "no supplies" error. I has been working fine all day. There are new cartridges in there..

Make sure all cartridge are install and secured into place...(take all the cartridge out and back in ) close front door cover and it will go into cartridge calibration...If not, press the "menu" key and with the arrow go to print quality and confirm with the enter key. Go to calibration and confirm...

Install supplies the error message shows, there is black toner is blank
so the error showing in the screen.

Don't be afraid to contact HP Support for help. I just bought an HP2840 and after 2 months of very light printing (about 300 pages total, mostly B/W) the unit said "install magenta cartridge". All the other cartridges were 98% full but it wouldn't recognize the magenta cartridge as even being present. I couldn't print or copy B/W because of this fault. A simple phone call to HP Support got them to send me a new cartridge free of charge and it cleared up the problem. They even paid for return shipment of the defective cartridge.

The 2840 is a slightly different sort of machine when it comes to supplies. There is a main imaging drum unit which works for all four colors, and then there of course are the 4 colors. If the unit was asking for a drum unit then you should have instaled a Q3964A. It is entirely possible that your drum unit and black cartridge both expired at the same time, in which case, you need a black toner cartridge now.

Did you purchase a new cartridge or refill? These supplies have a non-resetable chip on them that must be replaced when a cartridge is refilled. If it is an new HP original cartridge, contact HP and have them replace it. If it is a refill, contact whoever you bought it from and get them to replace it.

My printer won't print---I just had the black ink cartridege refilled but it keeps saying replace supplies


Return the cartridge and use only genuine supplies with HP. HP cartridges have chips on them that dictate if they are OEM or not. Typically, if you use a refiller , these chips won't get reset.

Replaced black toner..now printer won't print any


In this case, actually it is not the Black toner that got depleted. Here the message being displayed indicate that one of the color Toner supply need to be replaced as it got depleted and currently the printer is printing in Black and white using the Black toner cartridge.

in this case, to troubleshoot these issues please try performing the following and check for the results.

* 1. Check for the level of the toner cartridges:

a) Check from the HP Toolbox application. Here are the steps to be performed from your PC:

* Access the Toolbox software.
* Select the Status tab.
* Select the Device status option.

Here you can check for the supplies status in terms of the % remaining for each toner cartridges.

b) By checking the supplies status from the printer control panel display.

On the printer display when printer is in Ready mode the supplies status can be checked from the supplies level indicator. Each toner cartridge and the Imaging drum level will be indicated by a bar which varies according to the level of the supplies present.

c) Print the supplies status page from the printer.

* On the printer control panel menu, press Menu .
* Use the (Right Arrow) button to select Reports, and then press Enter .
* Use the (Right Arrow) button to select Supplies Status, and then press Enter .

If any of the color toner cartridges and the Imaging drum have a low supply level replace them with genuine HP print cartridges.

The part numbers of the consumables are as follows:

* Black print cartridge - Q3960A
* Cyan print cartridge - Q3971A
* Magenta print cartridge - Q3973A
* Yellow print cartridge - Q3972A
* Imaging Drum - Q3964A

Hp 2840 "Replace supplies"


If one of the color cartridges runs out the machine will switch to black only mode. However, I have found no way to force it to continue printing in color mode when any one of the cartridges runs out.
