Question about White Rodgers 0754-1 Electric Water Heater Control

1 Answer

My water heater control won't stay on. I have to

My water heater electronic control box won't stay on. I have to jiggle and push it around many many times before it will start up and stay running. I'm guessing there's an electrical connection amiss. Should I just replace the whole control box?

Need a manual for a maytag electric water heater. model # HE2950S

More information is needed about this heater.

The label located on side of tank should show manufacturer.

Maytag does not manufacture water heaters.
Maytag is a brand name used to market water heaters made by other companies.
Maytag offers a phone number for water heaters:1-866-362-9898

Other resources:
-If the water heater has electronic control box on top, then following American Water Heater Company manual might be suitable:

-Electric water heater instruction manuals can be found on following link:
Each is basically the same, unless there is electronic control box.

Richmond 3360 gas water heater pilot won't stay on

Open following links for pilot and troubleshooting resources:
Problem could be bad thermocouple, thermocouple not sitting in pilot flame, pilot orifice needs to be cleaned, water heater needs more air, dirty air intake, hot attic environment, backdraft blowing out pilot, or bad gas control valve.
If you get flame, then ECO is not tripped.

I believe 640 is typical tank-type atmospheric-vented gas water heater.
Gas water heater problems can get complicated. New heater sells for $350 at local box store.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html

If thermostat is not controlling temperature accurately, then (1) gas control needs replacement (2) water heater has sediment build-up (3) combustion and burner parts need cleaning. (4) All three things above, plus additional causes such as bad venting or not enough combustion air.

Usually recommended that plumber replace gas control valve thermostat:
See typical tank-type thermostats:

Clean sediment out of tank:

Clean combustion chamber and burner parts and troublehoot venting and air supply:

Most gas water heater problems can be solved by having service technician perform yearly maintenance. Or by doing maintenance yourself.
This maintenance includes cleaning burner parts and combustion chamber, checking gas pressure and supply, bleeding air out of gas line, checking vent draft, making sure air supply is adequate and not exposed to chemicals, cleaning air intake. Also adjusting flame sensor so it is positioned correctly. If water heater is connected to electric circuit, the outlet must have correct polarity.

You can get gas to appliance indicates the gas control valve and water heater are not locked out. But the gas control valve thermostat can still be bad.

Why do you think the regulator has anything to do with the thermo-couple?if its not the thermo-couple its the flame sensor, you failed to give me the model number of the heater.when does the pilot go out.If its when the gas valve opens its the sensor.
