Whirlpool refrigerator GC3PHEXNS00 fan always running

I have a whirlpool refrigerator GC3PHEXNS00. Like others have posted, the frame between the doors was very hot, and the internal temperature was rising rather quickly. Had to call a repairman. He came and replaced the condenser motor. Now I have been paying more attention to the unit and noticed that the fan for the freezer never stops running. Is this supposed to be? It doesn't sound like the compressor is always running, but there is always air blowing into the freezer.

SOURCE: Refrigerator Freezing

Your refrig has a mechanical damper (the a b or c knob) it may be broken (uncommon ) \ is the freezer fan running even if the cold control is cycled?? Other than that it must be a faulty cold control These are very reliable refrigs and your problem is interesting. Please rate my solution

SOURCE: inside fan motor - evaporator

Yes if you dont hear the evap fan wprking remove rear panel in freezer let me know what you see. Is coil iced over? Is fan running? Is the motor warm? Attempt to spin the blade gently to see if the motor is bound. You can oil these.

SOURCE: Motor stopped running but lights & ice maker OK

this is most likely a bad condenser fan motor. pull refrig from wall remove compartment cover on rear and inspect the fan that cools the compressor. it is either jammed or seized up and needs replacing. while your at it you may want to clean the condenser coils as well they most likely have dust and lint build up on them. this motor is fairly easy to replace yourself if your mechanicaly inclined the part number should be 833697blade and can be purchased online, at a local appliance parts supply house, or thru a sears parts and servie center near you.
to keep the unit working until you get it repaired you can put a house fan blowing on the compressor area to keep it cool and this will get temps back to normal and cool down that center frame as well.
Thanks Peyton..

SOURCE: Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

Should the fan operate all the time in my refrigerator

Most of the time it runs only when the compressor is running. In other words compressor and fans will run together when the fridge thermostat ask for cold and stops together when thermostat is satisfied. In newer fridges some time inside fan (evaporator fan) might PERIODICALLY run without compressor to circulate little cool air to fridge compartment from freezer compartment.

My Whirlpool Gold Side by Side (counter depth) [model# GC3PHEXNS00] refrigerator stopped making ice. Water dispenser is still working, doesn't seem to be an obstruction in the line. What do I do?

Can be clogged water passing line or faulty water valve. But if you have already checked the water passing line and it seems clear, then its most probably the water valve.---------

The ice maker not working: ---

Its the problem of water inlet valve. It's a dual valve. This valve has two tubes in it. One for water dispenser and one for ice maker chamber. The one side of valve is working, but other side of the valve is not working. The valve is got stuck in one position

Whirlpool refrigerator getting hot on frame where doors close.

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

I`ll start by letting you know first the heat between the doors is normal...to a degree, and done by design to help prevent moisture along the "breaker strip"/divider.

If all else appears fine, temp. Ok, fans running, no significant frost build up on freezer back wall, it's likely nothing to be concerned about.

**Just be sure the condensor fan isn't jammed and still turning.** The fan at the back next to the compressor.

The amount of heat can be determined by several factor's such as,

1) temperature setting - lower ( colder ) the temperature is set the more the run time the hotter the strip.

2) The ambient temperature - hotter the environment the more the unit runs to compensate, hence the hotter the strip.

3) The amount of "fresh" content added to the unit ( especially freezer section if unfrozen items added ) - new items add a lot of warmth thus demanding the unit to run more to remove this heat (btu`s or british thermal unit`s )causing the strip to be hotter.

4) Build up of dust & dirt on the condensor coils - this also causes the unit to run excessively which in turn makes for more heat on this strip.

These are all things which can and do determine the amount of heat between the doors.
Another factor to always consider is of course If it is hot where you live the unit may just be running more to compensate as with other factors I mentioned.

Hope this answer's your question and let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank's for coming to "fixya" and good luck moving forward.

The fan motor needs to be replaced . Pt # W10124096 , is the part number for the condenser fan motor ( compressor cooling fan ) . It costs about $ 100.00 for the part , but is easily replaceable ( 2 or 3 screws ) .

The external metal frame is VERY HOT

Your condenser fan is probably not running. 99 percent of the time that you feel that hot spot it is from the condenser fan not running and the unit is not rejecting any heat

Hot frame is mullion heaters. Keeps moisture from forming on door and causing rust. Sounds like the connector is defective, remove connectors and wire direct. If fan won't run then you need to call a qualified service tech.

Door frame is always hot on freexer side

Is it hot all the way around, or just on the face of the divider between the freezer and fridge? If it's just the divider, then it's probably not a defrost problem. When that divider gets hot, it usually means there is inadequate air flow over the condenser coils outside the unit.

When the compressor is running, check for air blowing under the unit. If no air is moving, then you probably have a failed condenser fan. If the fan is running, then use your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils, and make sure there is space behind the fridge for air to flow.

Old Whirlpool refrigerator- 15 or more yrs. old

there compressor run time is strickly controled by the temperature control. the fan runs as long as the fridge is not in defrost. you may try a heavy wrap on the temp control witch has a small set of points in it witch may be worn out . the only other comon part is the compressor start relay mounted on the compressor where the wiring enters the compressor. you will find one wire goes to the relay and the other to the thermal overload. if you have a voltage meater you can check to see if the power is actualy making it to the compressor. best of luck .. please post feadback
