SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Locked by the written word-WRITE PROTECTED, how can I remove this and delete this and use my camera

You didn't state the model of your camera so I'm assuming it uses SD cards.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

How do i take write protect off?

Good day,

This tip will explain how to remove the write protect from your SD Card.

This is a easy fix and won't take a minute.

First remove your SD Card from your device. You will see on the side of the SD Card that there is a small switch. If your SD Card complains about being write protected simply put the switch in the opposite position. Some of the SD Cards even have the word LOCK on near the switch indicating the direction the switch must be to LOCK the card.

Once the switch is changed you can put the SD Card back into your device and the problem of write protection would be solved.

Please feel free to let me know if this tip was able to help you!

My camera is write protected

Dear Hannahboggs9,
I am not quite sure of what is the make of your Memory card however most of the memory cards have a small switch on side that could be toggled to make it write protected. I am sending you a link with picture to make it more clear.
http://media.digikey.com/photos/Toshiba%20Photos/SDM%20MEMORY%20SERIES.jpg
See the yellow slide lock on left edge of the above card...

Now if there is no lock on your card or if the above mentioned is not the problem then you might want to try formatting the card using your computer with "FAT" OR "FAT16" file system selected from the drop down (DO NOT SELECT FAT32).

If that too doesn't work then you might want to try with a different memory card.
This issue doesn't seem to be with camera.

In case any further assistance is required please write back and I would be glad to assist.

Regards,
Srinivas

How to remove the protected card message on the camera

Remove the card from the camera and move the small sliding switch to the unlock position (I'm guessing you have an SD card?). That should solve it. Re-install the card and you should be good to go.

What does write protect mean?

"Write Protect" means that something is locked and your device (camera) cannot "write" to it's storage area.
What type of "storage media" are you using?
For example:  the camera's internal memory, a CompactFlash card, a Memory Stick, an "xD-Picture Card" (micro, mini or regular sized), or a Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard.
[Did you put something  (a small plastic card of some sort) into a slot on the camera before or after turning it on?
Those little cards usually have a tiny button (also called a switch or lever) on them that will move back and forth to lock (write protect) or unlock it. This sounds like the memory card inside your camera is locked or "Write Protected.

To fix this simply take it out, closely examine the memory for the button- the button will be closer to the word "lock" or "protect" and all you need to do is gently slide it in the opposite direction from where it currently is. Put it back into the camera and see if it still says "Write Protect."

Let me know...

Memory card is write protected

thought the cards have a little tab on them so they can be "write protected" it is a little plastic tab on the side of the memory1.gif card you slide up and down. I know most SD cards1.gif have it, CF cards dont so if its anything besides SD memory its probobly the memory card or some little switch or somthing in the camera that tells the camera when the card is in the "Locked" or "Write protected" mode.

Looking at my SD memory cards1.gif they have a little arrow on the edge and they say "Lock" pointing down, the slider is up. Move yours both ways, maybe it has a bad connection in the card (im not sure what it actualy does) or its in a position the camera thinks its locked?

Protected feature

There are 2 probable solutions. 1. The images are "protected" by the camera & will show "locked" when you try to erase them. 2. The SD card in the camera is locked. The solution to 1 is to unlock the images in the playback menu. See page 46 of the manual. Note that you need to select "unlock" you can't select protect as they are already protected! Solution 2 is to remove the card from the camera & check the "lock" slider that you can see on the side (although no all cards have this). Set the lock off. You can download the manual from the first link on the following page: http://www.vivitar.com/manuals/english/ViviCam6300/CameraManual.pdf Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
