The might be an issue with the power adaptor inside the enclosure. suggest that you take it to a repair shop. if you are technically savvy, try swapping with another enclosure.

Seagate FreeAgent Go inaccessible! Suspect MBR corrupted!

This always depends upon how valuable the data is.

fixmbr in the recovery console will not harm the drive IF you can get into it by way of the USB interface. You might consider removing the hard drive and putting into a desktop , directly connected to the SATA IDE controller to eliminate the eSATA USB interface as the cause of the problem.

Run chkdsk /r as soon as you find a way to get access.

Use command line options that you know what they do, but I would tread lightly since more damage can be caused.

Freeagent doesnt start

Hi,

I think you have already diagnosed the problem sufficiently, the tolerance of the free Agent is less than +/- 1.5v so you have undoubtably fried the controller board in the freeagent case. The real question is wether the PCB board in the case was kind enough to blow out quickly and save the drive itself.

First step is to take it to the local computer shop and have the hdd swapped into a fresh case. If it works in the new case you're done, if not, you'll likely need the help of a pro to recover the data off the drive.

Give it a shot and report back, if it's not successful, let me know what country, state and city you're located in and I'll make a recommendation for a professional facility that can help you with the recovery.

Seagate hard drive will not power up

You have to be running NT, XP or Vista to access the drive. I take the power cable out, then plug it back in. Or try rebooting with the hard drive plugged in. Also purchase a USB Extension port so you can unplug the USB when not in use to stave off overheating. Go to Seagate and download Seatools. Also Download the source code for the drive while you are there.

Seagate freeagent pro 500GB power on/off unsure

I believe it's normal as the Freeagent is responding to data on the input (eSata) cable. If you don't like the light always ON, hook it up first via USB to a Windows PC and set the light to "off" and the drive to spin down "never". If the drive loses power, you will have to do the procedure again. Otherwise, the light stays mostly constantly ON and make a nice companion to Tivo lights. ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
