Question about Apple iMac G4 Desktop
This seems to happening a lot at the moment!
From experience it can be a number of things, the worst being a failing hard-drive These imacs are now at least 6 years old and unfortunately HDs don't last forever anymore.
Try starting up from your install Cd and run the disk first-aid found in the utilities menu. Does it fix anything? does the Mac now start up properly. Also while you are in the utility, look to see how much free space is left on the HD. You should have at least 10% of the HD's total capacity free. if not then the system has to work overtime and that invariably invokes the beach-ball.
If the utilities found nothing wrong and you do have plenty of free space then the next thing is to do an "Archive & Install"
This will reinstall the system software which may have become corrupted. The down side is that you will have to run all the updates that you already had done all over again.
You have got everything backed up haven't you?
