You will need to use the same WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) Key that you used on the other computer. Or, you can press the reset button (located on the back of your Linksys router) for at least 10 seconds while powered on to reset it to default (unsecured wireless network), and then readdress your router (by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of a browser) to set up your security with a new WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) Key.

I hope this helps, and Good luck.

My computer is beeping and the green light is staying on but the red light is not on and it just beeps i changed the battery and still beeps and no signal

Hi,

If you are receiving continuous beeps, it means that computer is not recognising the RAM (memory). In this you have to open the Computer and follow the below steps:

1. Turn OFF the computer
2. Open the flap of the Tower (Remove the screws from the back of Tower)
3. Now, On the Motherboard you will be able to see the RAM see the picture nanjia.jpeg

4. There should be two pins to unlock and remove it
5. Once removed, clean the terminal and replug it.
6. Turn ON the computer, it should take care of the issue

Thanks and regards,
Jitha

there are several possibilities. 1. replace the ram, make sure that its a good working ram module. 2. review all your work from system board to power supply. 3. try running it temporarily without the cmos battery. 4. check your monitor. 5. check your VGA. 6. retry and retry.

Hp xw6200, 6 beeps, and red power button...failed start up.

6 long beeps indicates that there is a problem with the memory, take them out, clean the contacts and the DIMM slots and reseat them.
Hopefully this will resolve the problem, if not new memory may be required
kind regards

Comcast says my old WRK54G router is defective. Should I replace it with WRT54GS (Walmart $55) or WRT54G2 (Staples $64). (2 home PC's & occasionally laptop-pretty heavy internet...

Since your WRK54G is already bad, I will advice you to get this WRT54GS router because i can tell you that it work fine and the connection is much faster compare to this WRT54G2 and WRT54GS is pretty much stable compare to the WRT54G2 since I have work for Linksys for almost 3 years...

DOn't forget to rate the solution FIXYA thank you...........

No video signal

that does not sound likely. how old is your computer? if it is more than about 5-6 years, it may have a blown power supply(basically your computer is dead) this happened to my friend's computer while i was there and he blamed it on me, if you think you caused it, don't sweat it. it would have died anyway! to prevent this from happening in the future:

-get a high powered one(450-800watts)
-replace it before it goes, not when it goes(so, when the pc reaches the 5-6 year mark)
-back up all your data to a usb hard drive that is not connected to your computer(network storage, etc.) make sure it is at least 250gb, if not 500gb to make sure you have enough room.
-make sure the computer doesn't get too hot. if you are not too sure, download a program called speedfan. use it wisely, and if you don't know what something means, don't touch it until you know what it means.

hope that hepls, cheers!

I cannot set up my Linksys wireless router model number:WRT54GS to work properly. I have a desktop computer with Windows XP operating sysyem. I have three other laptop computers with wireless components

Hi,

The easiest would be to connect your desktop straight to your modem and verify that you can connect to the Internet. Do not use the LinkSys WRT54GS yet. Pop in the CD that came with the WiFi Router and run the setup wizard. Follow exactly on screen instructions. Verify that your desktop's networking is set to auto obtain IP address.

Alternately, you can try:
1. connect your desktop with a straight through LAN cable to Ethernet Port #1 of the WRT54GS;
2. set your desktop to use IP-192.168.1.10, Subnet Mask-255.255.255.0, Default Gateway-192.168.1.1;
3. open a browser and goto 192.168.1.1. use the LinkSys supplied username and password;
4. verify/configure/set the LinkSys to your preference;
5. for the time being do not use any security keyphrase, WEP WPA or MAC filter;
6. verify that your laptops could see the router's SSID;
7. verify that all laptops are set to auto obtain IP addresses;

If for some reason neither method will not work, pls post back with your modem's make & model.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
