Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
The sounds drivers are free. They are specific to the hardware. So to find your driver you need to know either the motherboard make and model or the desktop make and model or the laptop make and model.
If it is say a HP desktop. Then we go to www.hp.com and click on Support. Then it will ask what model. Lets say it is a DV6000 then it will ask what operating system which is XP. At this point you will see a list of drivers. You then just download the audio driver and run it. It will instal the drivers and you may need to reboot but you will now have sound. This is typical for any driver you need regardless of the brand etc.
So what you need to do now is find out what the hardware or computer is. On major brands it is printed on the case somewhere. On something lthe local computershop put together you can call them, look at the manuals for the motherboard. If none of that gives you the make and model then we have to open the case and look a the motherboard. You just need a phillips screwdriver and a flashlight. Open the case (hard part) and look at the big motherboard. Printed on it will be the brand and somewhere will be the model. As an example it might say ASUS or ABIT for the brands, and might say something like P5PE which is the model. At this point you can go to the manufactuers website and download and install the drivers. A few of these are a bit hard to find so if you can't google the webite then just come back here and someone can help you out.
So once we know what we have hardware wise we can get the drivers. Getting those installed is the easy part.
