First of all, thanks fore the quick response. Looking closer at the model number, mine is a 2008WFPf, and the board is just a bit different. Here is a picture of my board...

OK, I checked the fuse, and there is continuity across the terminals. On the big cap, you say 160vac, do you mean DC? I checked AC first, but it pegged the meter. Set on DC it is at 160.

  • fy51 May 05, 2010

Yeah, both legs of the axial fuse are at 5vdc. I really appreciate your help up to this point, to be honest I was surprised to get a response at all!

  • fy51 May 06, 2010

    I uploaded the pics to I checked the voltage coming from the red and black wire connector. From the red wire, the black wires test 0 - 0 - 5.4 - 5.4 - 5.4 - 3.7 - 3.7 - 5.4 - 0

  • fy51 May 06, 2010

Nothing at all. Acts like it is unplugged from the wall. I also tested the little power switch to make sure it was making contact.

  • fy51 May 06, 2010

Sorry, I'm not quite sure which contacts you would like me to test. I've updated a picture in the gallery to help me clarify which pins. Could you take a look please. Thanks again.

You need to open it up and inspect the main fuse (red round part by the AC inlet), DC filter caps (look for bad caps with leaking or bulging tops).

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

OK, I look at the picture, the fuse is the round black component near the AC cord inlet, it is labeled with T3.15A/250V.

You should check (two pins of the cap) to see if you have about 160vac on the big cap (the one that lay down side way with two pins showing). You must be real careful here! Lethal voltage, you should be working on this board when it is plugged into GFCI OUTLET ONLY!

OK, 160VDC is good, there is another small fuse close to the white connector with one red wire and black wires that is also need to be Ohm out, it is an axial fuse, T5A 125V, if you check with DC volt meter beween ground (chassis) and either one of the fuse leg, you should have 5vdc. It is a little difficult at this point for nto having the board infront of me to do deep troubleshooting.

Well that means the main power supply is working. So right now do you get any indicator light at all? Since the 5vdc is used for the logic board which is upplied by the red and black wire connector. If the 5v is feeding the logic board but there is no response from power switch, then we can assume that the problem is in the logic board, but I need to know the condition of the power indicator first to go to the next step since 5v will be stepped down to 1.8~2.2v and 3.3 by the regulator on the logic board. I may need to see the picture of the logic board next.

So there is no indicator light comes on when power switch is activated? The sreen did not flash on for a seconds?

Please measure the dc voltage on the four pin of the power switch, before pressing and press and hold. You should have around 0v to 3.3~5v reading during press/not press. If do see it change state then it will tough to go from there since you may have microcontroller problem or the EPROM is scrambled.

I am talking about the pin on the power switch itself, there should be four pins per switch. The connector you show is set up as a matrix for scanning for the signal being sent by the switches which is then decoded by the microcontroller.

Dell 2208WFPt no power - nothing.

Check the cord at the wall and the back of the monitor. If you can use a known-good cord, and still nothing, then your best bet is replacing the monitor completely.

When I press the power button on my studio 1555 nothing happens. I have tried with and without the battery plugged in. I am so confused as to why it isn't turning on. over the past week it has been a bit...

It could be a mechanical failure of the button in the hinge assembly.
It could also be that the AC adapter wasn't working and the system was powering off battery till batter died.
Are there any power indications on the system? (Battery LED with AC Adapter connected?) If there are power indications then the power button seems to be the possible fault.
If no power indications, try a different AC adapter

DELL 2208WFP LCD-Comes on normally, but almost immediately goes dark You can see something on the screen if you look closely. Turn it off and back on you see it then dark. any help?

I believe the power led button is still on while the screen goes dark, if yes, it means the picture board of your monitor is bad that is why it appears for a second and goes dark after that

Since the power led button is on, It means the picture board on your monitor is faulty that is why it appears for a second and goes dark.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer or any service center within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself in other to complicate issues.

Take care.

My monitor states its in power save mode.when i press any key, nothing seems to happen.

To bring the computer out of the power save mode press the "Windows" key once and release, wait one second, then press enter. The system should come out of power save mode. The Windows key is the key with the Microsoft Windows Symbol on it. Another solution would be to disable power management.
To disable power management, right click on the desktop, click on properties, screen saver, then Energy Savings Settings button.
Change all the settings to "Never", then click on "apply" and "ok". Power management has been disabled.

My Dell laptop d600 suddenly shut off and will not power back up....led light on adapter blinks when plugged in...I have tried re-inserting RAM modules but this or nothing else seems to work.. thank you...

Unplug your battery and then plug in AC adaptor and see if laptop powers on. I assume you power button doesnt turn on at all? If so, your motherboard seems to have a power issue. Unfortunately, you have to replace motherboard. If laptop. powers on withour battery then you then battery needs replacement.
