What is sounds like to me, it you need to replace the developer.
Once it is in the machine for an extended period of time, the ink no longer transfers onto the drum properly and your copies become washed out.
It is rather amazing the differenece a fresh shot of developer will make.

Poor copy quality

The drum, developer and other parts have a certain life that they are good for. After they go beyond that cycle they can start to run dirty, use alot more toner, basically give you problems until a complete maintenance is done. The drum can have permanent light fatigue, even though they look good and in alot of cases one side will start to get darker than the other. You should get an estimate of what it'll cost to have servicing done and compare that with the cost of a new or refurbed machine. If the copier is very old, it might be worth it to get a new one. Good luck, please rate this if it helped you. Thanks

Canon PC6re copier makes copies that are dark on the long edges

Just fyi, a Canon PC-6e is a copier that is about ten + years old of a model... The drum unit will make the copies better.... But, you most likely need to clean the optic's. Have you tried to make the copies lighter??? If I am correct, there is a small botton on the control pannel that will turn... It will make the copies light one way and darker the other way... Good Luck

Resolution is getting poorer and copies are getting darker

A new drum cartridge is in order; this is a DIY replacement and the company linked below was a reliable source over many years of such service:

Copier too dark

Did you clean the lens and the mirror under the lens cover? If so, There is a VR behind the front cover of most small Xerox machines. One VR makes the image darker/lighter and one VR changes the lead edge registration.

Light Print

6b1645a.jpgThe button circled in red is the darkness/lightness button for the copier. The normal option should have a light beside it. If that light is on then maybe try setting it to darker? Hope this helps.

Light copies

You may have your machine set to print in "toner save" mode. Check your machine settings by printing a list. Also, some generic toner cartridges have too much polymer in the mix and will print light copies. If you change back to OEM toner, you may have to change the drum too, as the extra polymer stays in the drum unit and weakens the mix.

PRINTING PROBLEMS

Have you tried a New Drum Cartridge?
It sounds like the drum cartridge is bad. Do you know how old the drum cartridge is or how many copies are on it?
If you take the drum cartridge out (Do not tip this upside down or touch the drum) you should be able to see a shiny long cylinder called the drum underneat the unit. Does it look like its covered with toner?
If it is covered with toner, then the cartridge needs to be replaced and that will take care of your problem with the dark copies.
If its not covered, then it could be a dirty optics which would require for your machine to be serviced. But 99 out of 100 times its the drum cartridge.

Hope this helps.
good luck.

Printing pages dark

The cartridge itself needs to be replaced, threre is a blade called the drum cleaning blade which scrapes toner off the Drum(blue roller) it is not cleaning the excess toner.
