How to reinstal system without CD. Dell Dimension 3000 - when I look on My computer I can see only C: , but I know there is also partition E: (does not show on My Computer) - so I assume there is a hide partition with OS on it. But when boot the show only 2 posibilities: F2 - setup and F12 boot menu. So F11 is not working to have an option for resetup OS. May there is another combination of keys I should try? Any other ways to do fresh instal with format disk? Thanks

Hi.

If the disk had been re-formatted or re-partitioned, then the recovery partition will not work anymore.

When the recovery partition is working, if the system has XP installed you get the option to Click CTRL+F11 on startup.

If you have Vista you need to press F8 on startup and then choose restore to factory default. Here instructions for Vista:Step 3: Restore the computer's software to original condition

If the system is starting , you can also attempt to restore the system using the dell utilities from start menu.

If that does not work, it means that the recovery partition had been deleted. In that case you will need to reinstall the system using a Windows install disk.

In that case ou need to reinstall the system using the licence number on the sticker usually placed at the bottom side of the computer.

Microsoft does not distribute replacement disk to reinstall OEM licenced Windows, so that you will need to find a disk.

If you want to purchase a new licence, you can get one from the Dell store.

A common way to proceed is downloading a disk with the operative system corresponding to the version on the sticker (eg.Windows XP Home Edition), and reinstalling the system.

This practice is not endorsed by Microsoft, but it is not illegal, providing that you use a genuine licence number valid for installation on this computer.

THis is the operation performed also at local computer shops to reinstal OEM operative system.

The operation is done for a small fee at computer shops. A good option would also be having the job done at a local shop.

If you want to DIY, you will need a Windows install disk of the same version printed on the licence sticker.

A way to get the disk is by downloading the disk. Please be aware that most persons making the download available are breaking the law by also providing invalid licence numbers or programs to disable Windows Validation procedure. If you decide to download the disk, also be aware that software distributed in this way may contain viruses.
In no case use a licence that does not belong to your computer genuine license, or does not come from a genuine Microsoft system COA sticker that can be installed on your computer.

To download the disk you will need at least three programs:

1) a p2p downloader: µTorrent

2) a p2p search utility: Convivea - Bit Che

2) a CD/DVD burning utility: Free CD/DVD burning

Install the downloader, then the search utility. Search a Windows disk for your same version. Choose one that does not offer crack or validation cheating. Download may take over one day to complete.
When download is complete burn a CD by installing CD burning software.

Start the C610 with the Windows disk inside and reinstall Windows.

After installing the operative system you will need to download and install all the software drivers listed here.

The operation is quite complicate, and system reinstall is suggested to an advanced computer user.

If you have not done anything similar before, better taking the laptop to a shop, or contacting Dell to arrange a repair. This will also exclude the risks related to download of not verified ( and often non-legal) software using P2P.

Regards.

I want to take my dimention 3000 back to factory settings?

Hello,
First, if the computer has the restore partition, you should see a blue bar at the top of the screen immediately following completion of POST. After two seconds you should see a message about loading the descriptor for PBR2. If you don't see these things after you start or restart the computer, the restore function is not operational. If you do see them you need to restart the computer, press CTRL and F11 toward the end of POST, and release both keys simultaneously before you see the message about the descriptor for PBR2. If you are successful you will get a screen that has an option to restore the computer to factory configuration.
If you don't see the blue bar, try using Disk Management to see how many partitions you can find. If the partition exists, you should find three. First, a utility partition formatted in FAT-16 about 32 MB in size. Second should be the NTFS partition used for the C drive; this one will be the largest partition on the drive. Third should be a FAT-32 partition of two to three Gigabytes in size. This last is the restore partition. If you wish you can try to fix it, but you will need to study Dan Goodell's page found here: Inside the Dell PC Restore Partition.
If you don't have the restore partition and can't fix it, the only thing you can do is find the CDs that should have been shipped with the computer and restore the system manually. If you don't have the Dell Windows Reinstallation CD, you can ask for one here: Dell Replacement Disks. If you don't live in the U.S. you will need to contact Dell Tech Support for your region and request the CDs.
Hope this helps!

How do I delete everything that is on my dell dimension 3000 and reinstall the original software that came with the computer?

First, you need to find the original installation disks that came with your computer. There's a Dell System Recovery disk that will wipe your computer and reinstall everything as if it had just come from the factory. Insert the Recovery CD, restart your computer, and press F11 or F12 to access the boot menu. When you get the boot menu, select the CD/DVD ROM drive as your boot device. This will lead you through the re-install process.

Having Trouble Reinstalling XP on my Dell Dimension 3000

Here's what I would do. Download and burn any Linux disk. Install Linux and delete all partitions while doing so. After that, initiate the Windows XP installation and see if that works.

This will take care of two things:

If you can install Linux, then the hard drive is good and the partition that was previously on there will be deleted (I suspect the partition is locked which can be caused by a virus or the software used to scrub hard drive).

Check your CDs for Windows (for scratches) or it could be your actual CD drive is out (laser) which would make the installation fail. If the CDrom cannot read the disk, it locks up like that during installation...even if it read before.
