Un-install the printer software using Control Panel / Add/Remove HP Printer... Turn off the printer. Unplug it from the AC power. Turn off computer. Next, I plugged the USB cable into computer port and into printer. Plug printer into AC outlet. Start up computer. Let PnP find printer. When asked, insert software CD and follow on-screen instructions. Turn on printer. Hope it works for you too.
>>You might go to Control Panel / System / Device Manager and check to be sure you do not have any conflict alert with the USB port.

This hard reset will get rid of electrostatic problems on your USBs, if it does not work you will need to disconnect printer from usb, reinstall drivers from diskette or factory website, then connect printer back.
Here is support and drivers page from HP: HP LaserJet 3055 All-in-One, it is not opening at the moment, they may have some trouble with website.

HP laserjet 3055 toner is fine but print blank pages except the test page,. Copies fine too from the glass

Try the following
1. Ensure that the driver is not currupted and is compatible with your operating system.
2. Try changing the connecting cable.
3. Try connecting the device thru both the ports (one by one) USB & LAN. (The driver will have to be loaded for each port).
3. Connect device to a different PC.
4. Download fresh driver compatible to your operating system from HP Support.
5. Perform a NVRM re-set (all stored data will be lost). (refer my solutions available on this forum).

Best wishes

The USB port on the printer is loose and therefore not communicating with my computer.

You can open up the printer and try to fix it, but in fact you will probably need a new part which will have to be soldered in.

An easier solution would be to use the parallel port connection, if there is one. Newer printers don't always have them, and I don't think the 3055 has one.

On the other hand, newer printers often have an ethernet connection, and you should be able to use this instead of the USB. I'm pretty sure the HP 3055 has an ethnet port. You'll need an RJ45 wire. You can get a USB to RJ45 adapter if you need to plug the other end of the cable into your PC's USB port (e.g. if your PC has only one ethernet port and you're already using it for broadband).

Hope that helps a bit. Good luck!

How to connect the printer wireless

I don't think the HP 3055 has built in wireless capabilities. It does however have a built in 10/100 Base-T TCP/IP networking with 1 RJ-45 port, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port, RJ-11 fax port, RJ-11 line-out telephone port. You should be able to connect directly into your hub or router and access the printer through a wireless router. You can get more information on set up at the link below.

Yes, you are correct in that you have to select the USB port from the driver in order for the printer to print to USB, or install another driver for the USB port.

Have you plugged in your printer into a different USB port on the computer? If so, return the USB cable to the original USB port it was in before. If not, try another USB port on the pc and have the driver disk handy because it might act like you have never had the printer plugged into the PC before.

Good luck

HP LJ 3055 Toolbox Not Connected

Hi SaveWetland!

Without being able to see your machine, I'm going to make an educated guess at your problem. Many times, when a printer is used over a network, only the printer driver itself is actually installed on each user's machine. Utilities, such as the HP Toolbox, may not be installed. If your network administrator allows it, you could download and install the complete printer software package off the HP website, which I'm highly confident would solve your issue. If not, I'd advise you to contact your IT person and have him/her install the complete package for you.

Good luck and I hope this helps. Please let me know, and also provide a rating if you deem it appropriate.

HP 3055 prevents boot up in Win2000, causes lockup when connected

Actually I deleted the PCL 6 drivers which had been installed by the original HP driver CD, went to the HP website and downloaded the PCL 5e drivers instead.

I also added a USB switchbox between the PC and Printer, leaving the default setting as disconnected. Now, it boots up fine, without having the HP printer connected.

In use, I wait until just before I need to print a document, switch the USB selector to connected and obtain hardcopies of my documents.

Then, to ensure against screen lockups / freezing, I switch the USB selector back to disconnected.

It's a kludge and not what you should have to do for a $400 laser printer AIO device.

Naturally, I am completely unimpressed with HP software engineers, who have a functionality somewhat below Dilbert and his crew.
