Try connecting to S-video or DVdcomponent. If you have only composite video input for TV,Connect to video cable to Yout in DVd,If you get a Black and white picture,Your Dvd video card is defective.
Maybe not cost effective replacing it.Contact local Philips service center.

How best connect external DVD to TV: Composite or Component? Both available on both units

If the TV does have a component input, that will be your best choice. Component video provides an HD signal; composite is only an SD (480i) signal. However, if the TV doesn't have 3 RCA ports (red, green and blue) for the video itself, in addition to the red/white RCA audio ports, you may be missing an adapter that allows the port to be used properly. You'll need to set the TV to the external video input with a Source or Input button on the TV or the remote. If you press the DVD button on the remote, the TV will only attempt to get the signal from the internal DVD.

Please add a comment with the make and model of your TV for additional information. A number of TVs (like some LG models) share the composite and component inputs and use an adapter to reduce the input to a smaller area on the TV. Without the adapter, the TV can't correctly identify the signal. The component video adapter for my LG TV looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/LG-OEM-Original-Part-EAD61273107/dp/B00C5HXILE . There's a second one for the audio signal.)

I hope this helps.

How to connect a dvd player to lcd tv

Your DVD player's output is Composite Video (the yellow connector) plus stereo audio (the red and white connectors, for right and left audio)

The inputs on your TV are for Component Video, which splits the video signal into three cables (Y for brightness, Pb and Pr for blue and red, respectively)

Check your TV to see if it has a composite input (single yellow connector, labeled "video" or "composite")

And be sure to let me know if this helps!

Panasonic DMR-HS2 RF out is not outputting signal CH3 CH4 off

The most likely cause of this is the unit being in progressive scan mode. In progressive mode, the composite output is disabled. If you can, connect the DVD using the component output connections. If your TV does not have component input, connect the green connector to the yellow on the TV. If the unit is in porgressive scan, you will see a garbled picture on the screen. The only way to fix this is to turn off progressive scan. The manual will tell you how to do this.

Component Input

To save cost on this model, as with many others they are sharing the S-Video input circuits with the composite input circuits at the entry point. There is a kill switch incorporated with the S-Video jack in the set. Even if you put an external switch box to the set, the composite video will not work unless the S-Video plug is pulled. Your best solution is to get a TV set with a true multiple video input. The other alternative is to have a sat receiver with an external input for throughput feeding. Another alternative, but not as good quality as S-Video, is to use your sat receiver in the composite mode to the set, and have an external switch box to select one or the other.
