Question about DISH Network DVR 510 DTV Receiver / 100-Hours Video Recorder

1 Answer

I recorded 'Rocky' on the DVR at 4/16/10. Once I saw it on the recorded movie list, I made sure to protect it, and it was fine until today, when it just suddenly disappeared. The event list is currently 10, without 'Rocky', and I have 78hrs 10min left to record events. Any ideas why 'Rocky' disappeared? Thank you.

Hi, my name is Phillip Chang and I work with DISH Network's Technical Support Team.

We are sorry to hear that Rocky was not recorded like you had wanted it to be. If this were to ever happen again unplug the receiver for 10 seconds then plug it back in.

If the issue continues after this give us a call at out 24/7 technical support number for additional steps:

On my DVR there is a "protect" option that will prevent me from deleting a recording. You have to press the "protect" button again to unprotect it.Once unprotected you should be able to delete the recording.

The new recorder comes with security systems in it - when it encounters programs that have a "Do not Copy" signal on them it will refuse to work. This is how it's designed to work, there's nothing you can do to change that. BTW , even if you could do that it would have been illegal - recording a copy-protected program is considered by the lawyers of the channel in question as piracy .
The older one didn't do that because it didn't had the security system.

We keep losing shows! They record just fine, but then a few have disappeared, even when protected. Any ideas where they might be, and/or how to keep this from happening?

Check to see how full you DVR is. This happened to us and our DVR was filled up. When that happens the DVR starts to delete stuff, even protected things. It will first delete non-protected shows and then if there are none left to delete and room is still needed, it will delete other shows. Not sure, or can't remember how it prioritizes the deletion but it happens.
Check how full you DVR is and that may be where your problem lies.

How do I find History on DVR & retrieve my protected recordings?

In order to find your protected recording in the history on your DVR, you would simply press the button specifically labeled, "DVR" on your DISH Network remote, the DISH On Demand screen will then come on your tv, proceed by selecting "My recordings," on the "My Recordings" screen you will then select the "Sort" option. Once you have selected the sort option it will allow you to specify how you want the recordings sorted- the option you would want to select is, "Protected." I hope this helps you out, let me know if you need any other help! -Kirstie DISH Network

Make sure there is no time overlap on any of the programs you have on the recorder.

That is the most likely problem

Try getting a dvd recorder that connects to the video and audio ports and record to that. Im not 100% sure but I believe it records whatever it sees on the tv screen
