Question about NAD Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

My NAD 3150 amp makes a buzzing / ringing sound through the speakers. It is the same level for every input stage except for phono, which is much louder. Has anyone any ideas on what might be causing this and how it might be fixed? Many thanks for your help. Eric

Some additional info. The noise still occurs when all input source equipment is disconnected. It disappears when I remove the connectors on the back of the NAD between the pre-amp and the power amp

SOURCE: NAD C370 Amplifier

This sounds like a problem with the protection circuit, and/or the speaker relays. More specifically, a capacitor within those circuits that is not behaving properly. I strongly suggest having it looked at ASAP.

SOURCE: nad c270 buzzing in amp

The buzzing is coming from the transformer. It is almost expected of an amplifier of this size, that the transformer (a large one) will excite the resonance of the casework and make some noise.

SOURCE: connect subwoofer etc to nad 3020I stereo amplifier

Hi Info
You can use a 2 x male RCA to RCA female adaptor lead(what you need to ask for)  like this one 4d0dcde.jpg

use it to jumper your pre-out/main in connection on the rear, and connect an RCA lead to the Female socket on the adaptor lead. That will get you going. You can get them most places that sell electronic bits and peices. I am happy to answer any questionsa you may have

SOURCE: NAD 302 PHONO STAGE

Reverse your RCA input around and see if the problem follows, this will determine if the problem is in the turntable output signal or the preampsection of your amp. If it stays on the same channel, slightly move the RCA that's dropping out signal around. If the signal cuts in and out, you know it's just a weak solder joint on the input rca of the amp. If it does not change, your problem is deeper. Chances are it's a "cold solder joint" on the input section of the amp and would only be a labor type repair and no parts involved. That can be a double edged sword as well depending on how long it takes to find it. If you have to have it serviced, find a local shop that's been around a while, they are likely to be a little more insightful as to the exact problem quicker. Hope this helps

NAD 3150 cuts out

Hello. Slapping and it working is a tail sign that there is a loose connection, bad solder point, loose wire. When a circuit board gets hot, solder joints separate and an opening occurs in the circuit. Open it up and get a visual. Look for cold solder joint, make sure all the connectors are secure. Good Luck

How do you connect a nad c270 amp to the bose 901 series vi equlizer and system/

Bear in mind that 901's require exclusive use of any amplifier they use. You shouldn't expect to use conventional speakers alongside them on the same amp. The reason is that the 901's require the use of their dedicated Active Equalizer to shape the frequency spectrun to match their drivers' response curves, resulting in a flat sound output. Applying that kind of equalization to any conventional speakers will sound to sharp at the extremes and may even potentially damage them.

For connection I would run a pair of RCA cables from the L&R Audio Line OUT of whatever preamp or source you're using to the Active EQ's Line IN; then the EQ's Line OUT to a NAD amp's Line IN. DEselect any Tape options on the Active EQ, attach the 901's to the new amp, set the NAD volume controls pretty high (and leave them alone), run through any level setup procedures in your control electronics for volume, etc and you're done.

NAD 3150 doesn't play any sound

I, too, have the 3150 and have experienced problems with it. With me the INPUT knob is touchy and needs micro turns sometimes to get both channels to come through. Also, it sounds like the pots are dirty as I get a scratchy sound while adjusting the knob. I have been told that these units are great middle of the road audiophile units. Actually, for the price of a used unit you can't do better. I just had an NAD 2400 THX amp delivered today and am using the 3150 as a preamp. My girlfriend is not feeling well and sleeping in the bedroom, though, and I can't listen to it :( The few minutes I heard of Steely Dan's Cousin Dupree made me bout **** myself (until I got the dirty looks). Sorry I wasn't more help! Goooooo NAD!
